From 9 – 12 April 2026, the historic Company’s Garden becomes the canvas for LUMENOCITY – The Art of Light, Africa’s first large-scale festival dedicated entirely to light-based art, immersive storytelling, and creative technology.
Set beneath ancient trees and surrounded by some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, the four-night festival invites visitors to explore numerous light installations and interactive artworks of various proportions – all created by South African artists. As dusk falls, glowing pathways, projection-mapped facades, illuminated gardens, and sound-responsive artworks turn the country’s oldest park into a dreamlike nocturnal playground.
Timed to coincide with the Two Oceans Marathon, LUMENOCITY adds a new cultural dimension to an already popular travel weekend, making it an ideal moment for international visitors to experience Cape Town beyond its beaches and mountains.
Festival highlights include projection artworks across the South African Museum and National Gallery, a towering 10-metre light structure housing a fully immersive LED “chamber” and the Beam of Hope, a vertical column of light visible across the city skyline throughout the festival period.
Designed as a family-friendly, evening experience, LUMENOCITY blends art, technology, and play, with food trucks, ambient performances, and interactive works that invite movement and curiosity. It’s a celebration of creativity rooted firmly in place – shaped by African storytelling, local talent, and Cape Town’s unique relationship with light.

As cities around the world embrace light festivals as cultural travel moments, LUMENOCITY positions Cape Town firmly on the global calendar, offering travelers a new reason to visit, stay longer, and experience the city after dark.
