Stellenbosch Cabernet Collective in Jozi

Did you know that Stellenbosch is known as South Africa’s Cabernet Sauvignon capital? Well, you’re bound to see why on Saturday, 30 July. Yes, you’re in for a treat with an evening of fine wines at the Stellenbosch Cabernet Collective’s Cabernet Through the Ages event, taking place at the stylish MESH Club.

Essentially boasting two time slots – one with a Cabernet-themed Masterclass and one for mingling – the event is sure to give you ample opportunity to truly appreciate fine wine.

Attend the Cabernet-themed masterclass
3PM – 5PM

Masterclass attendees will start their journey with a complimentary welcome drink, after which a seated 8-wine tasting will commence. Top international Cabernets, including Opus One, Réserve de la Comtesse Pauillac, Dominus and Grand Vin de Léoville, du Marquis de Las Cases will be tasted. In addition, a line-up of Stellenbosch Cabernets from three famous vintages will also be tasted. These have been specially selected by top wine judge and critic, Michael Fridjon.

In the end, the value of the wines being poured in the masterclass is over R35 000 and the incredible Riedel varietal-specific glassware will ensure that the wines show perfectly.

Considering the rarity of these wines, seats for the masterclass are limited. Furthermore, the ticket price includes access to the walkaround tasting afterwards.

Meander and mingle
4PM – 7:30PM

During the second time slot of the event, you will be able to taste current vintages alongside older vintages seldom offered to the public. These will be made available by 22 Stellenbosch Cabernet Collective members. Ultimately, you can mingle with some of the Stellenbosch Winelands’ heavy weight winemakers, which include Jordan Wine Estate, Hartenberg Wine Estate, Neil Ellis Wines, Kanonkop Wine Estate, Waterford Estate, Spier Estate and Oldenburg Vineyards and others.

You will also be able to taste Warwick’s 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon, the oldest wine on the show. At the same time, you will get to chat about the wines with renowned winemakers, enjoy paired bites and taste over 40 wines! And, Norman Goodfellows will be orchestrating sales of the wines on the evening at favourable prices, should you want to stock up on some very special Stellenbosch Cabernets.
