There’s a brand new resident at Crocworld Conservation Centre. Its latest wildlife addition, is an adult female West-African Slender Snouted Crocodile (or Mecistops cataphractus). We would like to say a big thank you to the team for caring and providing for and preserving these animals.

So why is this of the utmost importance you might ask, well the species is endangered as Crocworld Conservation Centre’s acting Centre Manager, James Wittstock, says: “This particular species of crocodile, which can be found from Angola to Senegal, is critically endangered, with only 500 to 1 000 left in the wild. They’re hunted for bushmeat and traditional medicine which has resulted in their dwindling numbers. With rehabilitation and conservation at the heart of what we do, we hope that our new addition will allow us to introduce a breeding program for the species.”

Scottburgh’s Crocworld Conservation Centre is about 60km from Durban and they have a further four hundred animals. -They follow all Covid-19 protocols.

Visitors must wear masks, sanitize and follow family group social distancing regulations.

The Fish Eagle Café is open from 9am to 4.30pm.
