Step Up to Spread Hope

Step up and spread hope, Slipper Day,

Mzansi, get ready to step up and spread hope. ‘Step Into My Slippers and Spread Hope’ is this year’s theme for Reach For A Dream’s biggest annual fundraiser. It focuses on fun, empathy and stepping into the shoes (or slippers) of brave young children who face the battle of life-threatening diseases.

Jason Goliath, well-known comedian and entertainer, was the MC at the media launch for this year’s Slipper Day. While he is a comedian by profession, he was very serious when he urged South Africans to step up and spread hope. When you support Reach for a Dream’s Slipper Day, you contribute to being a beacon of hope to children suffering from these diseases.

Step Up and Spread Hope

There has never been an easier or more convenient way to support a good cause like Slipper Day. For as little as R20, you get the badge of honour sticker, which gives you the right of passage to wear slippers on 31 May 2024. In addition, you can also get a free coffee when you show your sticker at Wimpy on the day. Ah, just imagine wearing slippers to the shops, to work or to school!

Reach for a Dream helps children’s dreams turn into reality while they face the unthinkable. The media launch reminded everyone about the importance of hope. Hope helps patients to give them the will to live. Reach for a Dream believes that “no dream is too big” and really goes above and beyond to fulfil these children’s dreams and final wishes.

Wishing for a Shooting Star or a Bed?

If you had one wish, what would it be? A new car, your house bond being paid off, an overseas holiday? Well, for these children, it’s sometimes more about the little things, like owning their own bed to sleep in at home. “One of the children’s dream was to have his own bed. He told the Reach for a Dream team that when he is in hospital, it’s the only time he has own bed,” the CEO, Julia Sotirianakos, told the audience at the launch. Now, you can help a kid reach their dream!

How to Get Involved This Slipper Day

Julia feels inspired by how brave these children are. “This year, we’re calling on everyone to buy a sticker and step into their slippers on Slipper Day. By trading your shoes for slippers, you’re stepping into these youngsters’ world, showing them that they are not alone in this fight.” Let’s all, ‘Step Into My Slippers and Spread Hope’ this Slipper Day.

All funds raised from the day will go to the Reach For A Dream Foundation. Since its inception in 1988, the Foundation has turned more than 27 670 dreams into reality. These dreams, ranging from meeting personal heroes to experiencing new things for the first time, provide the children with a temporary escape from their illness and a much-needed distraction from often painful medical treatments. Most importantly, fulfilled dreams bring hope, giving these children a reason to believe that tomorrow is worth fighting for.
