10 Ways to Cosy Up Your Home for Cooler Days

Cosy up your home this winter

Kahlil Gibran said: “Kindness is like snow. It beautifies everything it covers.” This winter, we’re planning to cover our homes in kindness, beautifying it with simple elements and kind gestures. We’ve been looking for simple ways to cosy up our homes and these are our favourite options.

Texture

How to cosy up your home

Whether it’s a carpet, a cushion or a cupboard, texture makes your house seem more homy in an instant. Natural-coloured scatter cushions will invite you to take a seat on the couch and a beautiful coffee or cocktail station with textured doors is sure to set the scene. For those who like slow living and prefer the comfy seat on the floor, a soft carpet or rug will most certainly do the trick.

Candles

Candles for a cosy home

If you ask us, dinner by candlelight will never go out of style. Nor will a bath by candlelight (coupled with a fluffy bathmat and soft towels), or just a normal Saturday night with romantic light. We love candles as they serve up a hint of nostalgia in a world where everything is fast tracked and at the click of a button. Whether it’s dual purpose for mozzies and flies, or to add a special scent to your home, candles are a must if you’d like to cosy up your home. P.S. Check out Cape Island’s Heritage Collection, a proud and deep connection to all things South African, featuring four different fragrances.

Memorable wall art

Speaking of nostalgia, we believe that memories don’t just warm the heart; they also warm your home. So, why not invest in some beautiful frames in which to hang your most special family photos? That way, you get to see them every day instead of them just lying in a folder on your laptop.

Hurkle-Durkle in lavish linen

Do you know the Scottish term, hurkle-durkle? It means to get back into bed after you’ve woken up, just to indulge in the joys of soft blankets and coffee and a book in bed. We love it and it most certainly makes for a cosy moment or two as you are conscious about getting up slowly. Be sure to add a furry throw or a fluffy blanket to your bed to make it extra cosy

Switch the lighting tone

Ever notice the difference when you switch your cool lightbulbs to warm? It instantly romanticizes a space and will most definitely cosy up your home. Just be sure to change them all to the same hue to keep your house from appearing like a disco.

Cosy home

Decorative baskets are everything

While a decluttered home is great, a decluttered home with a cosy feel to it is so much better. Baskets are perfect for decluttering while simultaneously adding a touch of homeliness to a space.

Fresh, fluffy towels

Bring in some fluffy bath sheets, towels and even robes if you like to bring warmer touches to your bathroom spaces. Who said it’s only the living room and the main bedroom that needs to be cosy? We’re all about cosying up the whole house in order to utilise every space to its max.
