The Catalyst Hotel in the heart of Sandton, has been open for just a few months now and its eatery, Kashew Restaurant, has become a popular destination not only for its delicious food and relaxing outdoor deck, but for its vibrant ambience.

We’ve been fortunate enough to wine and dine here three times, and here are our top 5 reasons why you have to pull out your wallet this month for an exceptional dining experience.

1. They support local artists

“The art is really one of our big attractions at Kashew Restaurant,” says Robert Chifunyise, General Manager of The Catalyst Hotel. “The space works as an ever-changing gallery,” reiterates the hotel’s executive chef, Justin Maharajas he gestures towards the walls surrounding the tables and the entrance hall.

Expect to find works by incredible local artists like Jibril Linjoum Achu –who hails from Cameroon and sold his first painting at age seven and exquisite paintings by Teboho Makoatsa, who expresses the beauty and innocence of everyday life in South Africa and beautiful pieces by Treatwell Mnisi –who says of his work: “I apply impressionistic marks on a surface, to create an image.

2. The food is next level

A favourite is the Kung Pow Salmon Poke Bowl, with pickled ginger, crispy fried onions, purple Asian slaw, wasabi kewpie mayonnaise and baby shoots or the popular 28-day Aged Sirloin with roast marrow bones, brandy sauce poivre and hand-cut fries.

“The dishes all have a story and a memory and have journeyed and evolved with my personal style of cooking to become what they are today –and what you’ll find on the menu at Kashew,” says chef Justin. Justin loves experimenting with new dishes and, so, guests can expect occasional specials off the main All-Day Dining Menu, which has been newly updated to include the perfectly prepared Pan-fried Mozambique Prawn Pasta, with rich tomato chilli linguine, lime, fresh dill, Parmesan lashings and rocket.

3. There is a beautiful outdoor deck and swimming pool

The venue of Kashew restaurant inside the elegantly stylish Catalyst hotel, lends itself to the beautiful dining experience. Plus lets be honest, Joburg has the best weather in the world so we can dine outdoors throughout the year.

Sipping on a glass of rose on the outdoor deck, basking under the sunshine, perhaps even having a dip in the pool post lunch. We recommend all of the above, what a vibe, it just ticks all the right boxes.

4. If you have a long boozy luncheon you can extend it into a staycation

The best news is the restaurant is inside a hotel, in a prime location and all at an extremely affordable price too. The hotel is apartment style living so you’ll feel right at home, so order that extra bottle of vino because you can extend the adventure and simply sleepover. Hey it might even feel like a holiday!

5. Business, pleasure or both, they'll solve it

If you want to cleebrate your besties birthday or take grandma out for brunch or you want an intimate date night for two, this restaurant has got you covered. And if you want to host a conference or meeting, this is the ideal location too. Currently, chef Justin is working on a new conferencing offering and set of menus for what he is referring to as “Intimate Conferencing” at The Catalyst Hotel. “No one in Sandton can give the level of attention to a conference that we can,” explains Justin. “We are a proper restaurant, with a real focus on food, as opposed to being just a hotel who offers food and conferences. We can offer our corporate and conference guests a food experience like no other,” says Justin.
