Support local. Times are tough and our wallets are sluggishly defrosting, however it is vital we still support small local businesses. Right? With that in mind, here is our list of “Top 5 New Restaurants in Joburg.
Ground Cafe Muldersdrift
worth the schlep
So they’ve just opened again as of January 15th, 2021. But there’s one rule before visiting: “The first rule of 2021, don’t talk about 2020” we dig it! We also adore this charming little café because it is pet and child friendly so you can bring your pooch to breakfast for a puppacino or bring the kiddos for a morning walk followed by a delicious brekkie. That’s right they offer walks/hikes through the rolling hills of Muldersdrift, surely a win-win situation for all.
P.S they’re only open from Wednesday to Sunday.

Proud Mary
cheers to that
Oh halleluiah we say! We could not leave this awesome new establishment off our Top 5 New Restaurants in Joburg list. Joburgs’ brand new wine bar and modern style eatery is located in the heart of Rosebank, inside The Bank hotel and has a mid-century inspired look and feel. They have a beautiful wine bar, serving international and local blends with luxurious velvet seating and they make an Old Fashioned worth humming about. If booze ain’t your thang, then opt for one of their tasty coffees from the Proud Coffee bar.
To munch? Devour a few of their small plates and a side order of falafel salad and of course some fresh sashimi from the seafood raw bar.
Blah Blah Bistro
your new Zoom meeting hangout
This all day breakfast and bubbly bar will get your taste buds singing. Whether you opt for Kayla’s French Toast, Taryn’s Breakfast Panini or Shelley’s Granola Bowl, they’re all under 60 bucks and all utterly delicious.
It is an intimate and picturesque space and will fast become your favourite neighbourhood hangout. Why not catch up with a pal or host a zoom meeting?
Oh and Freddy, also knows as the back-bar-coffee-whizz serves up a mean cuppa and you can tell he’s always smiling under his mask.
Louise and Anna
lawd have mercy
As of 2020 this Louisiana inspired restaurant and bar has hit the streets of Jozi. You might have known them before as Shucked Oyster Bar but now this eatery has taken over with a bang. Expect a new southern creole inspired menu and an expected warmth as you enter the spot. “Bless ya hearts” is written neon style, all over the walls and we say bless you Louise and Anna for entering Joburg!
Embarc
an epicureans delight
Set up during the rise of Covid, this ones all about the food. It’s simple, it’s minimalistic in design and even the menu is short and sweet. It really is all about the flavourful cuisine. Go for a romantic date night and wine and dine over their triple cooked fries, crispy squid, decadent Parmigiano reggiano risotto and sundried tomato arancini balls. They have plenty veggie options and cater for all dietary requirements.
Note: they’re closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
