Montusi Mountain Lodge offers luxurious, country-chic accommodation, overlooking beautifully landscaped gardens and the glorious backdrop of the famed Amphitheatre. The lodge opened their doors to its first guests in June of 2000. Named after the peak under which it is nestled, the lodge was established by Ant Carte and his wife, Jean, in the anticipation of creating a lasting legacy for their family in the valley of Ant’s birth.

Hospitality was in Ant’s genetic makeup from the start, having been born the youngest son of Ruth Carte, who, despite being widowed with four young children, managed to singlehandedly steer The Cavern into the much loved “holiday resort of many happy returns” that it remains today.  

Twenty years on, Ant and Jean’s dream of being able to leave a legacy for their children, and their children’s children, has been realised. As of 2016, his daughters Loretta, Catherine and Lindsay have taken over the family business and the trio bring the same passion and dedication to hospitality that their Gogo Ruth and parents did collectively, for the last 80 years.

Whether you are visiting Montusi to relax, unwind and breathe in the fresh mountain air or trail run to the tops of the surrounding peaks, there is something for everyone. 

The lodge offers guided daily walks and thrice-weekly trail runs, horse riding, fly fishing, tennis courts, lawn games, board games, swimming pool and occasional sunset yoga sessions.

You can climb Montusi Peak, explore the Waterfall Cave, boulder hop up the river, tackle the 4×4 track, visit the bushmen paintings, organise a romantic picnic… the possibilities really are endless.

Five minutes away, guests can visit All Out Adventures which offers a variety of adrenalin-filled fun including a tree-top zipline tour, paintball, quad bike tours, an adventure zone for kids and a variety of well-maintained mountain bike trails.
