Cheese the day at Choo Choo Junction
There is something tortuous about having to cook your own dinner day in and day out. That’s why we’re showcasing an experience that will not only get you out of the house, but reinvigorate the Master Chef inside you. Trust us when we say that this dish is everything it’s cracked up to be and you need to try it!
Firstly this is an old tradition from Italy and there is no other restaurant you can get an authentic Parmesan cheesy wheel, named Gertrude, served at your dinner table. And at the ridiculous level four lockdown special of R95! So if you’re as serious about cheese as we are then this is the place to be.
Inside this little hidden gem in Linden is where the magic happens. We mean who doesn’t love pasta and cheese? This pasta dish is on fire. No literally, brandy is used to soften the Parmesan and is set alight, voila, dinner and a show. It is seductively rich and wickedly decadent.
Bathe your pasta in melted cheese and discover this masterpiece by joining them every Wednesday night for the special- R110 per person (standard price) for a flaming cheese wheel.
Oh you can also quench your thirst at the uber cool gastropub next door. Just be a little weary as they have several Absinthe cocktails on the menu… Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

- Taste Destination: on the last Thursday of each month the proprietor chooses a country and then serves that country’s cuisine, from cocktail to dessert over a curated 6 courses. Each guest gets a passport which gets stamped after your meal.
- No worries Wednesday: two pasta dishes for R150, lunch or dinner.
- Once a month they roll out their smoker and create American style brisket, wings and ribs, pair with Jack Daniels’ range of Whiskeys.
- Regular food and wine/whiskey/gin/tequila/ pairing evenings are also on offer.
For the month of July expect Christmas in July in aid of animal shelters, where they collect food and blankets for the shelters.
