Let us share a whole new world with you
Lokkum in the Ottoman Turkish language means Turkish delight and we find it fitting that the owners of this little Fourways gem deiced to name their restaurant after a world famous (and addictive we might add) sweet dish. Because that is just what this restaurant is, sweet and addictive!
Fourways and specifically Fourways Mall has undergone a metamorphosis over the past two years and in our opinion, has come to rival some of Joburg’s trendiest suburbs when it comes to excellent dining choices. Lokkum is no exception. This authentic Turkish eatery encompasses everything that one would expect from any number of true Turkish restaurants in the capital of Istanbul.
With an austere interior, the restaurants main focus is creating authentic dishes that conjure feelings of joy and satisfaction. The restaurant owners went out of their way to hire Turkish Chefs direct from Istanbul to ensure a true Mediterranean balance of flavours.
The restaurant’s claim to fame has to be their small plates or Meze as they call them. Each day the chefs prepare a selection of Meze based on what they can find locally and these are presented to the table on a rolling cart for patrons to select then and there. This is a very unique experience that to be honest, we have never had. What fun! Next up are the tantalising main dishes, like the Lamb Shank, Lokkum’s Chicken Special and various mixed Kebabs (chicken lamb and beef).
If you’ve made it to the end of your meal with a little space left for dessert (not an easy feet), then we highly recommend the Baklava as it’s made with imported pistachio nuts and a syrup that leaves your tastebuds dancing to the tune of hypnotic Kanun (that’s a traditional Turkish musical instrument).
Lokkum is open 7 days a week and you can make direct online bookings HERE.
