Capturing Life’s Essence: Lindokuhle Sobekwa Takes Home the Coveted FNB Art Prize
Unveiling a visionary in the realm of contemporary art, FNB Art Joburg proudly announces the triumphant winner of the 2023 FNB Art Prize: the talented Lindokuhle Sobekwa. A maestro of the lens, Sobekwa’s prowess in documentary photography transcends mere imagery, delving into the annals of history to unravel the enigma of the present. With each click of the camera, Sobekwa orchestrates a symphony that bridges time and space, inviting long-lost echoes into the vivid tapestry of today.
This year’s FNB Art Prize jury, an ensemble of luminaries including Abigail Rands (Krone’s Marketing Maven), Dr. Joy Simmons (Radiologist, Collector, and Philanthropist), and Kim Kandan (Fair Maestro and FNB Art Joburg Ambassador), were resolute in their decision. The 2023 laureate, Lindokuhle Sobekwa, masterfully weaves a distinctly South African narrative through his compelling documentary photography. With keen insight, Sobekwa casts light on a poignant reality, capturing both the struggle and the tender moments that define our contemporary experience.
Lindokuhle Sobekwa’s triumph marks a historic moment as he becomes the first documentarian to join the esteemed ranks of FNB Art Prize laureates. In the company of luminaries like Dada Khanyisa, Wycliffe Mundopa, and Lady Skollie, Sobekwa’s name now etches itself into the pantheon of artistic brilliance.
FNB Art Joburg will be held at the Sandton Convention Centre from 8 to 10 September 2023 and tickets are on sale from R150.
