Swifties, unite!
The globally renowned Eras Tour has been well underway since March 2023, and South African Swifties have been waiting in anticipation for a South African release date. With no dates surfacing, many South African Swifties have taken things in their own hands, travelling afar to watch Dr. Taylor Alison Swift perform her Eras Tour shows.
What did it take to get a ticket?
South African Swifties were ready for it and even took to social media, petitioning to get the famous pop star to tour our beautiful country. Alas, they resorted to purchasing tickets for international dates based in Europe, Asia and Australia.
Swifties had to pre-register for international dates. Some registered for several countries in the hope of getting a chance to see their favourite singer live. Ticket access was then assigned to Swifties around the world, some getting the chance of a lifetime and some falling short. But, the anticipation did not end there.
Each tour date was assigned designated purchase dates. To purchase a ticket, Swifties had to wait in an online waiting room until a slot opened up. Then, once granted access, the clock started ticking and you had to select your seats and purchase them within 10 minutes.
It isn’t over just yet
Following Australia, Taylor Swift is touring internationally in Europe, Asia, Canada, as well as North and South America.
South African Swifties have had to grab their passports and prepare for their travels – at no light cost. Swifties planning to countries with stronger currencies in peak summer months knew all too well that it would cost them an arm and a leg. Booking flights, hotels, visas and saving money for spending, they knew what their trip would entail. Still, they have no regrets for their upcoming travels and having the opportunity to see their music icon from up close.
Social media content is flying with outfit choices, eras to dress as, makeup tutorials, sewing tutorials, blind reaction challenges, friendship bracelet sharing and preparation. This all with the help of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Movie on Disney+. The sensational American singer, songwriter and performer has had a timeless effect on South Africa and the rest of the world, proving that being a Swiftie is a pure state of grace, and a worthwhile fight.
