Math Restaurant

Located at Waterfall Corner, Math™ Restaurant (which opened its doors in May this year) brings diners much more than just a dining experience. In fact, they offer a tribute to a rich history of entrepreneurship and community engagement – one that stretches back nearly fifty years. Owner, Puleng Mathabatha drew inspiration from his parents’ hardware store in Lebowakgomo, which was established in 1974. He says it was more than a business; it was the heart of the township and a place where the community gathered and shared stories. Evidently, the name, Math™ also represents the first four letters of his family’s surname. This symbolises the legacy that drives his hospitality venture.

At Math™, you can expect a fusion of tradition and innovation – from comfort classics to daring culinary experiments. In fact, each dish tells a story and is bound to encourage engagement. The menu is inspired by everything from the streets of New York to the humble home-cooked favourites South Africans know and love.

Math Restaurant

Math™ is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and is all about community, legacy and shared experiences among friends and families. “It’s been a journey that’s taken time, dedication and a deep connection to my family’s history,” says Mathabatha. “To see Math™ become a reality is incredibly fulfilling – like seeing the pieces of a long-awaited puzzle finally come together. Just a year ago, I couldn’t have imagined that we’d be here, but everything is aligning in a way that feels like it’s meant to be. This is more than a restaurant; it’s a living embodiment of our commitment to honouring the past while building a vibrant community. The entire concept is fuelled by the spirit of togetherness and the enduring legacy that my family has created.”
