Folklore Festival
The Folklore Festival returns in 2024 for its third edition, featuring a diverse lineup of storytellers as the community once again gathers to celebrate our rich culture and heritage.
Join the conversation on our creative platform, #WeTheFolk, for 30 days of reflecting on 30 years of freedom across three cities, beginning on August 17, 2024, at the NSA Theatre. The event kicks off with an immersive screening of Re-membering IGAMA?, a compelling work by the multi-talented storyteller Slindile Mthembu. The evening will conclude with a captivating performance by Siya Makuzeni, featuring solo and duet performances on trombone and vocal loops, accompanied by Dalisu Ndlazi on double bass.
Re-membering IGAMA? is an award-winning filmed theatre production written and directed by Slindile Mthembu. It tells the story of five women living in a conformist South African community, exploring whether they can break free from societal stereotypes or if they will remain confined within the post-colonial expectations of South African society.
