National Geographic is revving to release their new series called No Taste Like Home With Antoni Porowski on 26 February 2025. It will air on DStv Channel 181 every Wednesday at 20:30. Viewers are in for a treat as Porowski takes them on a journey of different cultures, cuisines and curiosities.
This tantalising docuseries invites viewers to join Antoni Porowski as he guides celebrity guests on journeys to explore their ancestral gastronomic roots. Porowski is a culinary expert and an Emmy Award-winning star of ‘Queer Eye’ from Canada. In the series, he crosses boundaries by travelling around the globe in pursuit of culinary masterpieces.
He says: “It’s a beautiful adventure to discover our past through the great connector that is food. I’m honoured to go on this journey of self-discovery with new and old friends alongside National Geographic as we learn together about the ways different cultures celebrate food and experience their traditions.”
In each episode, Porowski and his team explore a new culinary history. From uncovering stories of unique family recipes and meeting local travellers who share their food journeys, to dining with royalty and off-roading to who knows where. Porowski’s guests include: Awkwafina, Henry Golding, James Marsden, Florence Pugh, Issa Rae and Justin Theroux.
Interestingly, each episode took three to six months to research, never mind the time it took to produce. This ensured that each story was undeniably factual, even though the emphasis is based on the subjective, allowing for each emotion and every word to be authentic.
The six episodes are titled:

2: Awkwafina’s Korean Homecoming
3: Justin Theroux’s Italian Quest
4: James Marsden’s German Dish Up
5: Issa Rae’s Senegalese Royal Boots
6: Henry Goldings Malaysian Adventure
In conversation with Antoni Porowski, the series’ host dove into what his docuseries is all about. Naturally, questions about his well-known guests were at the forefront. However, we wanted to explore where South Africa comes into play.
While South African cuisine does not feature in the first line-up of No Taste Like Home, Porowski is gunning for it to be front and centre if he gets another season.
Still, there is much for South Africans to learn from the soon-to-be-released show. In fact, Porowski hits the nail on the head when he says there is beauty in understanding other cultures and learning more about things we would not otherwise think about.
In every episode, there is a story worth telling. No Taste Like Home delves into more than just traditional recipes. It looks into one’s ancestors, heritage and specifics of what makes each story impactful to the world. Porowski says it is more than just a cooking show. It is about trusting each other and learning more about yourself.
He continues that the kitchen is a vulnerable place. Whilst there is nothing interesting about a person cutting up a carrot or cleaning dishes, the connection comes from the conversation that takes place whilst these mundane tasks are being completed. Subsequently, cooking is a universal experience which then leads to universally understood concepts and emotions.
So, whilst the secret ingredient is always love, No Taste Like Home explores how this saying came into being amongst generations worldwide. Evidently, the beauty of this unique series lies in the different ways in which various cultures interpret the saying.
