Steenberg ‘Skyline & Vine’ Party Unveils New Flagship Labels

Steenberg Flagship Wines Range

Steenberg, one of South Africa’s most celebrated wine estates, has experienced the ultimate makeover. At their exclusive party, ‘Skyline & Vine’ – hosted at Sandton Sun and Tower’s San Deck – they unveiled a new visual identity for their flagship wines.

In a seamless blend of historical traditions and contemporary nuances, Steenberg has now updated its branding for their Black Swan Sauvignon Blanc and Catharina Red Blend.

Steenberg’s Ultimate Party @ Sandton Sun's San Deck

Walking through a visual immersion tunnel, we were transported to Steenberg Wine Farm’s charm right in the middle of Joburg. In fact, the city’s evening air perfectly captured the beauty of the farm’s cool-climate vineyards. In addition, the décor paid homage to Steenberg’s historic werf, solidifying Steenberg’s presence in South Africa’s wine history, but also its future.

Wine tasting stations surrounded us, with only one rule for the evening: Never have an empty glass! So, with over 10 wines to try, as well as the newly branded flagship wines, we were in for a memorable night. Throughout the evening, the make-believe Catharina Ras entertained guests. In fact, she took us on a wonderful adventure of storytelling. Here, we relived her life as the first female landowner in the Cape, having established Steenberg in 1682.

Carryn Wiltshire, Steenberg’s Marketing Manager, says: “Catharina was a trailblazer, an innovator ahead of her time. Her influence is woven into every aspect of Steenberg. She transformed a wild landscape into a sanctuary. Today, we continue to honour her legacy by crafting wines that reflect the distinctive Constantia terroir and the timeless values of quality and precision.”

Steenberg’s Black Swan came to life in a dazzling show of elegance and sophistication thereafter – a beautiful ensemble of pointe shoes, tutus and feathered wings. Evidently, Steenberg’s logo and flagship Sauvignon Blanc was literally centre stage. Then, a live band and DJ took to the floor, inviting guests to enjoy the rest of the evening grooving and sipping.

According to Wiltshire, “the event was designed to reflect the sophistication, energy and timeless appeal of Steenberg’s new identity. Every detail – from the immersive entrance experience to the artistic performances – was curated to tell the story of [their] evolution as a brand.”

Steenberg’s Black Swan and Catharina, Re-envisioned

At the centre of it all stood Steenberg’s Black Swan and Catharina, the ultimate stars of the show. Steenberg’s new visual identity is an ode to its rich heritage as part of South Africa’s oldest wine-producing region. Furthermore, it signals Steenberg’s ongoing evolution as a leading fine wine brand in our country.

Wiltshire says: “The new flagship wine labels embody Steenberg’s commitment to premium quality and innovation. They are a visual and tactile representation of the elegance and craftsmanship that define our wines. The labels ensure the wines remain as relevant and aspirational as they are exceptional in the glass.”

Both new labels feature a muted, nude-toned elegance that reflects Steenberg’s luxurious nature. Additionally, they also feature an image of Steenberg’s historic wine cellar with embossing that adds a tactile dimension to the bottle. And, the deep purple and dark green hues redefine the wines within Steenberg’s corporate identity.

The Catharina Red Blend 2021 captures the elegance and depth of Steenberg whilst paying homage to its pioneering namesake. At the same time, the Black Swan Sauvignon Blanc 2024 showcases the fresh flavours and crisp acidity of Steenberg’s grapes. Of course, the label is also a nod to the farm’s swans – the elegant creatures that have become the symbol of Steenberg.

“Our new labels are a statement of refinement, depth, and modern sophistication,” says Wiltshire. “They’re designed to stand out on shelves and in cellars, resonating with established collectors and a new generation of luxury wine consumers.”

The Perfect Setting for a Perfect Wine

When the corks were returned to their bottles, the night wasn’t quite over just yet. Making our way to the lifts, we ascended Sandton Sun’s impressive building to the 17th floor.

Walking into our suite, we were met with a decadent cheese board that was just what the heart craved after a wine-filled evening. Our room was soon filled with the smell of freshly ground coffee and we lounged on the suite’s sofas whilst looking out over Joburg’s skyline.

After pondering the beauty of life, we climbed into the plush bed and settled down for one of the best night’s rests. Of course, the morning promised freshly baked scones and croissants in the hotel’s dining area.

The luxurious nature of Sandton Sun & Towers perfectly matched Steenberg’s brand essence. Naturally, these two brands are now synonymous with one another in our minds.

Steenberg’s newly designed flagship wines will be available from April 2025 at select retailers, in Steenberg’s Tasting Room and via the estate’s online store.
