The New Fourways Mall: Upgraded, Updated, and Unmissable

Fourways Mall Upgraded Signage

The West Rand of Johannesburg has just got bigger and better with the revamp of Fourways Mall. The biggest shopping centre in South Africa has got new stores, fresh experiences and major upgrades that make it a premium destination. Furthermore, leading the way is the new “Fourways Mall” sign that stands 5.2 metres tall (similar to a female giraffe), luring customers through the centre’s doors.

New Stores: Shop Til You Drop

Flanagan & Gerard partnered with the Moolman Group to re-introduce Fourways Mall into the market as a premier shopping centre and entertainment destination. Over the past 12 months, the mall has let 20,783 square metres of retail space and renewed leases for over 150 existing tenants. Subsequently, this has taken vacancy rates from 24% to just 13%.

Among these new arrivals for the food and shopping market are Faro, Baglios, Spur, Huawei, Leviton’s, Mochachos, Pet Shop Science and ZuluZenith. Furthermore, the mall has clustered stores according to their shopping nodes: fashion, food, technology, fitness, entertainment, etc. Therefore, whilst some tenants are brand new, others have relocated to more ideal spots! For example, financial service offerings African Bank and Travelex have moved to more convenient positions in the mall. At the centre of the mall is the entertainment square. Recently, it hosted The Speciality Coffee Expo and is currently hosting the National Barista Championship.

“The strong performance of our new tenants confirms that our leasing strategy is on the right track, and we are delighted to have made significant improvements in the overall shopper experience,” said Juan Palm, Fourways Mall Centre Manager. “We’re committed to improving the quality of life for everyone who visits our mall by housing greater variety, joyful experiences and access to the brands and services they know, love and need.”

Fresh Experiences: A Lifestyle Destination

Fourways Mall has started its re-identification as a healthy lifestyle destination. Therefore, it has broadened its entertainment and fitness options. The recently opened Match Padel on its rooftop is one example. The space features eight padel courts and is complete with a café and sweeping views across the setting sun in the West Rand.

Furthermore, other wellness-related additions include High Performance Training which is a Hyrox-affiliated fitness studio. Beauty On Tapp, The Fritz and Wellness Warehouse also grow the health-focused sector of the mall.

In terms of entertainment and leisure, the mall has welcomed four new players: Total Ninja, Urban Playground, Planet Fitness, Bloc 11 and Tactical HQ Shooting Range. These join the already established entertainment options like Bounce, The Fun Company, Adventure Golf, Extreme Go Karting and Ster Kinekor Cinema.

Consequently, these nodes allow Fourways Mall to provide even more variety to multigenerational shoppings and serve the need for experiential offerings in Johannesburg’s northern suburbs.

Upgrades & Sustainability: A First-Class Facelift

Alongside the new tenants and refurbished spaces, work is underway on a large-scale solar energy system. In doing so, an entire section of the mall’s roof decked in solar panels. This will be the largest solar panel system in South Africa’s retail sector. Furthermore, this renewable energy drive supports a long-term strategy to reduce the centre’s environmental impact and ensure consistent energy supply.

Additionally, improved signage, brighter lighting and an app to give directions from one shop to another add to the charm of the new mall. A newly designed drop-and-go zone now caters to e-hailing services without inconveniencing other shoppers. More so, a revamped parking system also improves traffic flow into and out of the mall.

Lastly, the airplane that was brought into the mall years ago is currently being refurbished and the surrounding area upgraded. This has become a vibrant attraction, famously named Lady Naledi. The Boeing 737-200 retired from active duty after being built in 1987. She is one of the only full-size commercial aircraft’s to be displayed inside a shopping mall in the world. Therefore, this positions Fourways Mall within the philosophy that “The sky is the limit”.

This is only the beginning for Fourways Mall in the quest for lifestyle and leisure excellency. With longer trading hours soon to come, and hopefully free parking after 17:00, there is no better time to visit Fourways Mall than today.
