Kultura Festival Hits Cape Town’s Northern Suburbs for First Time

Cape Town’s northern communities are gearing up for a star-studded celebration of art and culture: Kultura Festival. Seven top performances and several purposefully curated events will lead the vibrant celebration of the area’s rich history, diverse heritage and dynamic culture. It is taking place at Curro Durbanville High School from Friday, 20 June to Friday, 27 June 2025.
Friday, 20 June: Kicking Off with a Bang
South Africa’s queen of theatre, Sandra Prinsloo, is opening the festival on Friday, 20 June 2025. She will be performing her critically acclaimed one-woman show, Kamphoer: Die Verhaal van Susan Nell.
This theatre performance follows the story of an Anglo-Boer War survivor, delving into the atrocities of this time. The play masterfully portrays resilience and confrontation with past trauma, bringing to life the power of the human spirit.
After this, lighten up with some fermented grapes at the Kultura Wine Festival part of the evening. This will continue into Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday, 21 June: A Triple Whammy of Wonder
Three performances of Marion Monroe will kick of festival celebrations on Saturday, 21 June 2025. Marion Holm will enchant audiences with her one-woman show, blending wit and honesty with a fresh array of characters. This comedic gem, co-written with Chris Vorster, explores identity and self-perception.
The second act of the day features Marc Lottering in his comedic skit that offers a personal glimpse into his life and heritage. Lottering will share never-before-told stories, including his hilarious belief as a child that his family were “blonde German-Caribbeans”.
Lastly, closing the Kultura Festival on Saturday will be another comedy legend, Barry Hilton. In his skit, titled Unscripted, he gets on the stage and starts talking about anything that comes to mind.
Sunday, 22 June: Symphony, Sunshine and Satisfaction
Kultura Festival turns things up a notch with their Symphony and Song showcase on Sunday, 22 June 2025. This performance features Zanne Stapelberg and the Cape Town Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. Together, they enter a world of operatic arias, musical theatre hits and fiery tangos.

Tuesday, 24 June: A Night of Beats
Afrikaans rap royalty, Early B, lights up your Tuesday night with his witty lyrics and infectious beats. He will also perform with DJ Justin Vega to ensure you are on your feet and bopping along.

Wednesday, 25 June & Thursday, 26 June: Talk Your Hearts Out
Kultura Festival 2025 is also the host of a public speaking competition, Nou Praat Jy! This will allow youth the chance to speak their minds and have their voices heard infront of a large audience.
Friday, 27 June: Lights, Camera, Action
The Band Battle accumulates at Kultura Festival on its last day. The three best high school bands from the competition will rock it out on stage during the Friday night concert.
