2. Sandton City’s “City of Enchantment”: An Urban Fairytale

Sandton City transforms into a spectacular enchanted realm, complete with glowing sculptural installations, elegant décor, and dramatic festive displays. At Sprinkle & Sugar, little chefs can decorate giant cookies whilst Donut & Dazzle allows kiddies to customise their own Krispy Kreme doughnut. Other stations include Trees & Twinkle, Bauble’s & Bliss Words & Wishes, and Santa’s drawbridge for a merry-go-round ride. There will also be a Photos with Santa section at an extra R100.

Why visit: It’s high-glam Christmas décor made for holiday selfies and luxury shoppers.

3. Melrose Arch: The Iconic Christmas Lights

Melrose Arch continues to reign as Joburg’s unofficial Christmas promenade. Its golden overhead canopy of lights creates a warm, magical atmosphere perfect for nighttime strolls.

Besides the dazzling lights, expect to see the Jeppe Pipe band, a Jameson Festive Market, Christmas Markets and Fun Zones throughout December.

5. Joburg Zoo Festival of Lights: An Illuminated Night Out

The zoo’s pathways come alive with illuminated animal sculptures, colourful lanterns, and festive installations. It’s peaceful, family-friendly, and beautifully unique.

Why visit: A twilight adventure through glowing wildlife silhouettes—perfect for something different. You can see the lights from 19:00 whilst weekends see live performances accompanying the dazzling displays.

6. Montecasino: Tuscan Christmas Wonderland

Montecasino’s piazzas and walkways turn into a glittering Italian-inspired Christmas village. Expect giant décor pieces, nightly lights, festive markets, and holiday entertainment for all ages. This is also the largest indoor festive lights display in Johannesburg, with over 285,000 LED lights illuminating Montecasino.

Why visit: It combines European-style charm with family fun, from festive theatre shows to dining under twinkling lights. Pair your visit with a dinner date, casino outing, or theatre show at The Teatro or Pieter Toerien Theatres.

A brand-new festive delight, The Pavilion Shopping Centre’s Candy Cane Christmas Village offers a sweet, whimsical escape filled with oversized candy decorations, Santa moments, themed installations, and festive activities. They also have an authentic Christmas market with live entertainment from Durban’s finest musicians.

Why visit: It’s playful, family-friendly, and irresistibly Instagrammable.

3. Oceans Mall Festive Lights

1. Times Square Pretoria Festive Lights: Big, Bright & Bold

Times Square goes for full-scale spectacle with towering Christmas trees, dramatic lights, family entertainment, and festive installations throughout the precinct. Visit the gardens outside SunBet Arena to see the lights whilst a Christmas Market will run from 15 to 23 December 2025.

Why visit: It’s one of Pretoria’s biggest festive displays — modern, vibrant, and perfect for a night out.
