A Mediterranean dream in the heart of uMhlanga: Mitéra Restaurant

Mitera Restaurant

Mitéra Restaurant is the new kid on the block and its Mediterranean offering is causing a lot of hype. Beautifully decorated in cream and gold, bamboo and plenty of romantic lighting, it is the epitome of elegance and style. Architectural elements like arches and pillars create an almost ancient Roman space, complemented by geometrical shapes in the bar area and along the textured walls.

Of course, the cream pillared fireplace makes for a striking ambience throughout the restaurant, adding to the elaborate charm brought about by the overarching hues, the clever use of bamboo and big bulbous glass lights overhead. It creates the perfect setting for a romantic evening, a family feast or a fun night out with friends.

As we listened to the music in the background, we were lulled into a setting beside the Mediterranean ocean. You know… Romance, a warm breeze, dancing, sun-kissed skin. Perhaps a white dress and bright yellow flowers in our hair… that kind of vibe.

It’s not just the atmosphere that had us dreaming about a Mediterranean holiday, though. The restaurant’s cuisine is also packed with flavour. From a wide variety of starters and mains to the most sumptuous Greek-style desserts.

Mitera Pizza

We dove into the feta and ricotta stuffed calamari, grilled to perfection in lemon butter dressing, as well as some skinny chops with mint pesto for starters.

Vegetarians are well catered for here, with a lovely selection of starters and mains that leave you spoiled for choice. The Kofta zucchini fried in chili oil and plated with tzatziki is a unique vegetarian alternative to the usual Greek meat koftas.

For mains, we opted for a perfectly prepared Kob and halloumi, served on a divine pearl couscous salad, with the flavours combining beautifully. The fillet with cucumber salad, skinny fries and Tirosalata (a divine Greek dip) are also worth a try.

Quick and Easy Tomato and Basil Bruschetta Recipe with B-well Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Aromatic basil and crusty Italian bread make Tomato and Basil Bruschetta a classic and delightful dish.

Furthermore, the panna cotta with pistachios drizzled with honey was a light and creamy dessert – the perfect ending to a lovely evening. We also tried the Loukomades – mini doughnut balls, sprinkled with cinnamon and drizzled in honey. These are absolutely delicious and undoubtingly our most recent guilty pleasure.

Mitéra is a wonderful venue that opens at midday. Its kitchen closes only at 22:00, which means you get to linger a little longer, perhaps with a cocktail and some meze.
