Angala Blooms Anew: A Garden Sanctuary in the Cape Winelands

Located in the picturesque Cape Winelands of Franschhoek, Angala has long been a haven of tranquillity and understated luxury. Now, after a much-anticipated relaunch, this boutique hotel has enhanced its charm. Some of the estate’s luxury rooms have been renovated and a stunning herb, fruit and vegetable garden has been established.
Hello Lifestyle had the privilege of experiencing the garden firsthand during the recent relaunch event. Guests picked fresh produce alongside landscaper Leon Kluge and savoured a garden-inspired harvest lunch by celebrated chef, Samantha Dormehl. Every moment showcased Angala’s seamless fusion of luxury and nature.
A Landscaping Masterpiece by Leon Kluge
Internationally acclaimed landscaper Leon Kluge designed Angala’s new herb, fruit and vegetable garden. He is known for playing a key role in South Africa’s success at the Chelsea Flower Show last year.
A tour of the garden with him revealed the meticulous thought and care that went into creating this extraordinary space. The design ensures every detail delights the senses, nourishes the soul and encourages visitors to reconnect with nature. Guests are invited to pick fresh produce to enjoy during their stay or to take home as a tangible memory of their experience – whether it’s a sprig of rosemary, an exotic heirloom tomato or a handful of edible blossoms.

A Garden That Nourishes
Chef consultant, Samantha Dormehl collaborated with Angala’s kitchen team to create a seasonal menu that celebrates garden-fresh flavours. The menu reflects a farm-to-table philosophy, with many of the ingredients used harvested just steps away from the dining room.
The garden’s influence, however, doesn’t stop at the dining table, but its impact extends to Angala’s accommodation and wellness offerings. Freshly picked herbs enhance guests’ bath experiences, while vases of hand-selected flowers bring natural beauty to their rooms.

Sustainability and Community at the Core
Furthermore, Angala’s garden is also a testament to the hotel’s commitment to sustainability and community. Cultivated using eco-friendly, organic practices, its produce is as kind to the planet as it is to the palate. Surplus harvests don’t go to waste. Instead, the team shares any excess with local charities and the Angala staff, ensuring the garden benefits more than just hotel guests.

A Living Philosophy
Angala’s new garden remains a tribute to the hotel’s vision of creating experiences that nurture and inspire. It celebrates simple pleasures, the beauty of sustainability and the profound impact of nature on the mind, body and spirit.
This relaunch marks a new chapter for the boutique hotel. Guests can now experience the Cape Winelands in a way that is both luxurious and deeply connected to the earth. Whether seeking a tranquil retreat, farm-to-table dining experiences or a moment to reconnect with nature, Angala offers a uniquely nourishing escape.
