Spend the morning surfing on North Beach

Durban North Beach

The bonus of winter in Durbs, is that you still get to spend some time in the sun. Head on down to uShaka Marine World, hire a surfboard or a longboard and spend the morning learning to surf. Leave all troubles on the beach and battle the tides to paddle out to the backline, where you can rest for a while to soak up that freeing feeling of being in the ocean. It’s also a great way to work on your tan – even in winter – while you bask in the Durban sun. The surfing instructor will guide you through the basics on Addington Beach before you hit the small, gentle waves that are perfect for learners.

Soak up a little inspiration at Wordsworth

This charming bookstore is located on the ground floor of the brand-new Oceans Mall. The beautifully built, bright and spacious shopping space is home to top fashion brands where you can shop ’til you drop!

Wordsworth Books is the one place where you are bound to find a book that caters to any reader’s taste. The shop is easy to navigate, ensuring a convenient book-browsing experience. From the latest releases to some of the good old classics, as well as books that will allow you to expand your knowledge on any niche topic. They also have cool little bookworm gift ideas and accessories.

Pre-dinner sundowners at Sunsets & Mermaids

This is the coolest, funkiest beach bar and restaurant on the strip.  Sunsets and Mermaids is a magical spot perfect for a tipple, complete with surfboard-decorated ceilings and an ornate mermaid sculpture gazing out over her guests. Television screens show endless summer waves, island paradise views and big wave surfing for those wanting to escape the winter chill, and you can order from an extensive list of exotic cocktails. We tried the paintbrush, which comes with a real paintbrush to mix your drink.

Fresh seafood dinner at Tightline Salta

Tightline Salta

This traditional fishmonger restaurant in Umdloti’s Marine Walk Shopping Centre is the perfect venue for a family lunch or a romantic dinner. Initially started as a fisheries wholesaler, it now welcomes guests for a dine-in experience. If you are looking for the freshest line fish and most succulent prawns in town, look no further. One of the highlights of Tightline Salta is that you can pick and choose between fish, mussels, lobster or crayfish to prepare and enjoy at home.
