Strauss & Co is delighted to announce its continued partnership with art collectors and philanthropists Frank and Lizelle Kilbourn for the August Art Month at Welgemeend. This vibrant, month-long event will take place at the historic Welgemeend manor house in central Cape Town from August 1 to 31, 2024. Organized by the Friends of Welgemeend and the Kilbourn family, this boutique arts and culture celebration is now in its eleventh year.
The 2024 edition will feature a curated exhibition of modern and contemporary art from the Kilbourn family collection. This year’s exhibition, titled (On)bekend / (Un)known, will highlight lesser-known and underestimated artists alongside unconventional works by established artists.
The exhibition will spark thought-provoking questions about artist recognition and how unfamiliar works can alter public perception. Frank Kilbourn will explore these themes during a series of public walkabouts (cost R250 per person) on the following dates:
The exhibition opens on Thursday, August 1, and runs through Saturday, August 31, 2024. Admission is R60 for the general public and R40 for Friends of Welgemeend.
Throughout August, Welgemeend will host various events, including a gala dinner on Tuesday, August 6, a classical music concert by Gerhard Joubert on Sunday, August 25, a family day on Saturday, August 24, public talks, and a cocktail reception on Wednesday, August 14. The month will culminate with an art and wine festival on Saturday, August 31, 2024.

It’s that time of year when thanking the team for all that they delivered is critical. The year-end party is more than just an opskop, it’s the opportunity to show your team that you truly value both who they are and what they delivered this year. They say that a team is ultimately about human connection, and it is with this in mind that we’ve chosen these venues for your ultimate closing-of-year conference or celebration.
