The Durban International Film Festival (DIFF), hosted by the Centre for Creative Arts at the University of KwaZulu-Natal from the 18 – 28 July, stands as a premier film festival in Africa.
Established in 1979, it holds the distinction of being the oldest and largest film festival in Southern Africa, showcasing more than one hundred screenings, all of which are regional premieres.
In addition to its screenings, the festival features workshops, seminars, and outreach activities, including screenings in township areas without cinemas.
DIFF holds the prestigious title of being the sole Oscar qualifying festival in Southern Africa for Best Documentary and Best Short Film, and is one of four such qualifying festivals on the continent.
