Spier Wine Farm’s newest exhibition, “Extracts from the Blind Astronomer,” showcases the innovative work of Berco Wilsenach.
Building on his acclaimed Project for the Blind Astronomer, this engaging and thought-provoking exhibition delves into the realms of stars, space, and sensory perception in a unique way.
A standout feature is Wilsenach’s “Star Atlas,” a celestial map entirely rendered in Braille, which redefines how we engage with knowledge. The interactive installation, “Stone Universe,” invites visitors—particularly children—to piece together the cosmos, encouraging a hands-on exploration of the stars. This exhibition emphasises not only what we see but also what we can feel.
The exhibition will be open from October 10, 2024, to January 12, 2025, in the historic Old Wine Cellar at Spier Wine Farm. Admission is free.

Set along the gentle Leeuspruit River — just a short flow from the mighty Vaal — the estate unfolds across 70,500m² of manicured grounds, three shimmering dams, and sweeping lawns made for unhurried afternoons. It’s the kind of setting where mornings begin with birdsong and evenings settle beneath a canopy of stars — whether as a permanent sanctuary or a sophisticated weekend retreat from city rush.

It’s that time of year when thanking the team for all that they delivered is critical. The year-end party is more than just an opskop, it’s the opportunity to show your team that you truly value both who they are and what they delivered this year. They say that a team is ultimately about human connection, and it is with this in mind that we’ve chosen these venues for your ultimate closing-of-year conference or celebration.
