Food Indaba 2024
The annual Food Indaba, themed “Oikonomos” (Greek for ‘home management’), is set to take place from 22 July to 4 August across various locations in Cape Town and online.
This multi-part series of events will bring together diverse participants involved in shaping the food system, offering both in-person and online activities. The program includes ticketed events, free webinars, sponsored invite-only workshops, a full-day conference, talks, art exhibitions, dining experiences and the popular CBD Food Walks.

A dinner with Rwandan chef Jane Nshuti. - Angling for Good Catch
Sustainable fish menu at participating restaurants in the V&A Waterfront restaurant precinct. - Collective Power of Live Streaming
A public conversation series discussing two food reports. - Tea with a Farmer
Held at Oranjezicht City Farm and 16 on Lerotholi gallery in partnership with the Lerotholi Food Garden. - The Wine Shaq
Curated dinner featuring black producers of wine and traditional beverages, along with traditional South African dishes, led by Nomhle Zondani. - Foraging For Weeds, Harvesting For Life
Wild food harvesting ambassador Loubie Rusch will host a group gathering session of wild ingredients at the Sustainability Institute gardens. - Kids Cookout
Children ages 5-10 will lead their parents, guardians, or older siblings in a culinary journey of invention and discovery, run by Food Jams. - At16 on Lerotholi Art Cafe
Celebrates the nexus of art and food with a series of artist-hosted lunches at the Langa gallery with the artist. - Food Systems Walking Tour Cape Town CBD
A three-hour guided walk capturing the story behind Cape Town’s multifaceted food culture and current food reality in the streets.
