Grande Roche Hotel and Restaurant, a renowned establishment in Paarl, has introduced a delightful culinary experience called Grande Afternoon Tea, curated by Chef Kevin Grobler. This iconic hotel is known for its elegant accommodations and sophisticated country dining, and the launch of Grande Afternoon Tea adds to its allure, especially during the Cape’s winter months.
The tradition of Afternoon Tea, introduced to English royalty by the Duchess of Bedford in 1840, has now been given a contemporary twist by Chef Kevin, infused with South African hospitality. The experience begins with a glass of chilled sparkling wine or grape juice, followed by a selection of delectable treats. The menu includes Cold Cut Bruschetta, Seed Loaf Toasty with Tomato Cream Cheese, Marinated Tomatoes with Basil Pesto, Smoked Salmon, Sticky Rice with Cucumber Rolls, Pickled Red Onion, Grilled Onion Cups with Braised Beef Brisket, Glazed Pork Belly, and a variety of sweet delights such as Lemon Meringue, Vanilla Custard Slice, Assorted Macaroons, Chocolate Cake, Peanut Cremeux, and scones served with homemade jam, cheese, and whipped cream. The tea selection ranges from Black Tea & Blends to Green Tea & Blends, Ceylon, Rooibos, and Camomile, while coffee is also available.
Grande Afternoon Tea can be enjoyed daily with a 48-hour advance reservation, from 10 am to 5 pm. The experience is priced at R445 per adult and R345 per child under 12, including the sparkling wine or grape juice on arrival, a variety of teas and coffees, and the full Afternoon Tea menu. This experience is perfect for celebrations such as bridal and baby showers, as well as product launches and corporate presentations.
For lighter options, guests can drop in during the day for freshly baked scones or homemade muffins served with jams, cheese, or whipped cream, accompanied by quality teas and coffees, priced at R150 per portion.
