Told from the perspective of a former child soldier, he recounts the psychological, physical and social effects of war on child soldiers. Katanga, January 17 revisits the tragic history of the secessionist province of Katanga where Prime Minister, Patrice Lumumba, was assassinated.
The production delves into critical themes such as colonialism, African solidarity, instability, independence and decolonisation. Blending poetry and prose, and offers a biographical account of Lumumba. It also highlights the enduring impact of his legacy on present-day Democratic Republic of Congo.
