Red Bull SoundClash

The SunBet Arena will be turned into a battlefield when music titans Sjava and Focalistic complete for the Red Bull SoundClash champion title on Saturday, 28 October 2023.

The two will take to two stages, across seven rounds, vying for crowd appeal and votes, because there can be only one winner. Will it be African Trap Music or Amapiano?

According to the event promoters: Twitter streets have been talking about the death of African Trap Music in Mzansi and how Amapiano has taken over. However, artists such as Sjava have proved otherwise. His latest studio album has recently surpassed an impressive 42 million streams on major music platforms since its release. Not only does this showcase his exceptional musical skills, but also his keen eye for collaborations having worked with a few iconic South African artists on the album. Collaboration is key in Red Bull SoundClash, as both team captains will have to put together a team that they will be performing with on the night. Does Sjava have the magic formula figured out? We shall find out on the night.

EVENT FORMAT:

Red Bull SoundClash takes place over seven rounds:

• Round 1 (The Warm-Up): Artist plays 3 of their own songs to warm up the crowd.
• Round 2 (The Feature): Alternating, each artist brings out two artists featured on a song of theirs and perform it together.
• Round 3 (The Cover): Alternating, each artist covers the samesong in their own style and genre. (SA icons)
• Round 4 (The Takeover): Heat 1-4: Alternating, each artist starts playing one of their songs and the other artist ‘takes it over’ half-way through and finishes it.
• Round 5 (The Clash): HEAT 1-6: Alternating, each artist plays one of their songs, however each song is performed in a different style (i.e., Amapiano, Gqom, Electro).
• Round 6 (The Wildcard): Alternating, each artist performs one of their songs with a special guest that they picked on their own.
• Round 7 (The Finale): Both artists play a collaboration song together on the same stage.
