Spar Grand Prix Series | CPT
The 2025 SPAR Grand Prix series kicks off on Sunday, March 30, as thousands of women hit the streets of Cape Town for the SPAR Women’s 10km Challenge and 5km Fun Run.
Cape Town’s race is the first of five events in the SPAR Grand Prix series, where Africa’s top athletes will compete for valuable points. The series champion will walk away with R200,000, while the runner-up will receive R100,000, and third place will earn R75,000. These rewards are in addition to the prize money for each individual race.
The South African woman with the highest SPAR Grand Prix points will be awarded an extra R100,000, with the second-place South African earning R70,000 and third place receiving R50,000. Junior runners can also compete for an overall prize, with the results of three races counting. The top junior will win R10,000 in prize money.
This year, there’s an exciting new development for the SPAR Grand Prix series: Hyundai Automotive South Africa has joined as the official national vehicle sponsor.
In addition to the prize money, Hyundai is giving away five Hyundai Exter vehicles, each valued at R269,900. To win one, participants must be over 18 and hold a valid driver’s license..
The races also align with SPAR’s ongoing efforts to combat Gender-Based Violence and Period Poverty by 2030. Each event raises awareness and supports organizations working on these important issues, ensuring that the SPAR Women’s Challenges contribute to both physical wellbeing and a safer, more equitable society.
SPAR will livestream each of the five races on the SPAR Grand Prix and Modern Athlete Facebook pages, so viewers can join in the excitement no matter where they are.
