Swan Lake National Tour | DBN
For the first time in nearly 30 years, South Africa’s two premier classical ballet companies—Joburg Ballet and Cape Town City Ballet—will unite to stage one of the world’s most beloved ballets, Swan Lake, on a grand national tour this July and August.
This historic collaboration will see dancers from both companies sharing the stage in Johannesburg, Durban, Bloemfontein, and Cape Town, bringing audiences a production of Swan Lake on a majestic scale rarely experienced in South Africa.
The production is on stage at The Playhouse in Durban for performances on 18, 19, and 20 July, accompanied by the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra.
This revival of Swan Lake is based on the production originally staged in Cape Town in 1971 by acclaimed French dancer Attilio Labis. For the national tour, esteemed South African choreographer Veronica Paeper will restage the ballet, bringing new life to this timeless tale of love and betrayal, which has captivated audiences since its premiere in Moscow in 1877.
Tickets for all shows are available online through Webtickets.
