The SA International Tattoo Convention returns for its fourth year in March 2023. This time, the three-day convention brings the global trade of tattooing back to Cape Town, but also to Johannesburg for the very first time. The event is an authority in representing world-class tattooing with global recognition, high standards and various attending artists.

The only of its kind in Africa, the South African International Tattoo Convention (SAITC) aims to create a professional meeting place for the tattoo community. Ultimately, it’s to display their art for all to admire and to learn from. The event inspires South African artists to evolve and grow in their craft by exchanging knowledge about the best practices in the arts of tattooing.

What to expect at this year’s South African International Tattoo Convention

There will be over 140 world-class tattoo artists at this year’s SA International Tattoo Convention. This includes a collection of tattooers representing over 22 countries globally, all the best in their field and style of work. The convention will partner with only the best in medical waste management, sterilisation, tattoo supplies and a highly professional standard of tattoo practices.

In addition, you will also be able to rub shoulders with world renowned tattoo artists. These include the likes of Austin Maples (San Francisco), Waldo Del Rocca (Cape Town), Daniele Scafati (Rome) and more.

Experience it yourself

There will be a rounded experience for all this year, whether you’re a tattoo enthusiast or just a curious bystander. In the end, it’s about celebrating the gathering of old and new friends from all parts of the world. The bonus is that you can get tattooed by the world’s best tattoo artists, right on your doorstep!

Something for everyone

Furthermore, there will be live bands – including Fuzigish from Johannesburg – over the course of the three days. There will also be coffee roasters and a fully kitted beer garden and bar.

Do you have your heart set on getting tattooed by your favourite artist? You can pre-book your spot by contacting them directly via the South African International Tattoo Convention’s website. If you struggle to pre-book, your best bet is to buy a weekend pass, show up early when the doors open and chat to the artist directly. Usually, they make time for you over the course of the weekend. Of course, there are more than 100 tattooers to choose from.

This year’s South African International Tattoo Convention takes place at The Lookout in Cape Town (31 March – 2 April) and at 1Fox in Newtown, Johannesburg (25 – 27 March).
