Trouble In Mind
Alice Childress’s thought-provoking and groundbreaking play, Trouble in Mind, shines a spotlight on sexism and racism.
Set in 1950s New York, the story follows the challenges and tensions faced by a diverse group of actors—both black and white—as they come together to rehearse and perform a play. The New York Times described it as “fresh, lively, and cutting.”
Childress was the first black playwright to win an Obie Award. Fleur du Cap winner Mdu Kweyama (known for Reza de Wet’s Missing, Woza Albert, and The Goat, or Who is Sylvia?) directs this play-within-a-play, highlighting the contrast between the characters’ public personas and their true feelings and frustrations.
Trouble In Mind in on stage at the Baxter Theatre from 27 May until 1 June. Tickets are available online at Webtickets.
