For those familiar with Johannesburg and its surroundings, the allure of Hartbeespoort Dam, more affectionately known as ‘Harties,’ is no secret. Snuggled on the slopes of the Magalies Mountain lies Hartbeespoort Dam, home to a truly unique architectural wonder.
The dam’s Roman Triumphal Arch Style wall, inspired by the world-famous Arc de Triomphe in Paris, is a distinctive feature found nowhere else in South Africa. To construct this exceptional wall, an astounding 250,000 bags of cement were used. At full capacity, this reservoir holds an impressive 205 million cubic meters of water.
