From Fine Dining to Elevated Street Food: Jameson Stocks & Peter Tempelhoff – Round 2

We recently reunited with our December cover models, two of the world’s best chefs, at an exclusive gathering at Ramenhead in Cape Town. Jameson Stocks and Peter Tempelhoff came together once more to deliver another unforgettable dining experience.
As you may remember from that edition, the two chefs first met while training together in the UK under renowned chef Marco Pierre White more than 25 years ago. In a strange twist of fate, both have embarked on a journey that has taken them from fine dining to elevated street food. This event was a perfect showcase of that evolution.
The meal kicked off with innovative street food snacks like chicken nuggets with caviar, sushiya tacos, nigiri, ramen chips with onion dip and shiitake gyoza with sesame sauce. Then came the showstopper—Jameson’s famous smoked Hereford brisket, slow-smoked for seventeen hours. He had personally brought it in from the UK himself and it arrived perfectly tender and served with slaw and chimichurri. The feast continued with a rich Tori Chintan Ramen featuring Pork Chasu before ending on a sweet note with apple waffles with poached strawberries and vanilla ice cream.
Jameson and Peter reflected on their shared history and evolving culinary interests, from their early fine-dining days to their current passion for creating authentic, elevated and accessible street food. While they both have street food ventures in their respective countries, rumour has it that Jameson will soon open something in Cape Town too.
As we are quite familiar with South Africa’s own Peter Tempelhoff, we thought we would take the opportunity to get to know the UK’s Jameson Stocks a little better:

Q&A with Jameson Stocks
Q: Are we right to assume that the restaurant you will be opening will be casual dining?
A: Casual dining, yes. I’m not sure about the other one yet.
Q: So you may open more than one?
A: I’ve got a couple of options in Cape Town, so I might open two back to back. I’ve got itchy feet to try and do something a bit more fine dining as well, but we’ll see.
Q: Is it true that Brad Pitt bought the rights to make your life into a movie?
A: Yeah, I’m not sure it was Brad Pitt directly, but it was something to do with his company.
Q: Do you know if it’s in pre-production yet?
A: I have no idea. I know it’s got a big budget. I think it’s about a $60 million budget. The problem with movies is that when people buy the rights, they shelf it for three or four years. Lewis Hamilton’s just finished his movie, and that’s been in the works for seven or eight years now, so who knows?
Q: And who would you want to play you?
A: Chris Hemsworth.
Q: We know that you’ve cooked for people like Tommy Hilfiger and Jeff Bezos. Are there any other celebrities that you cook for?
A: I’ve cooked for Kim Kardashian quite a few times. Tom Hanks, Samuel L. Jackson. I did turn down Jason Derulo recently. I said no to him. Elon Musk reached out to me a few weeks ago. I mean, obviously I have my own businesses and stuff now, so I have to pick and choose what I’m doing with my own time. But I like cooking for everyday people, not just celebrities, you know?
Sorry, Jason Derulo. If you want some of Jameson Stocks’ cooking, you might just have to come to Cape Town!
Here, at Hello Lifestyle, we’ll be sure to inform you of more news about this new restaurant as it breaks. If Jameson’s smoked Hereford brisket is anything to go by, we wait with baited breath, salivating at the very thought.
