Ultimately, the Hollard Daredevil Run aims to promote early detection of prostate and testicular cancer in men so that prognosis improves around these diseases.
Numbers indicate that the survival rate in men whose prostate cancer is detected early is 95%, while the five-year survival rate for men undergoing treatment for early-stage testicular cancer is over 98%.
The statistics regarding male cancers are staggering. In fact, according to research, one in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. This cancer is also predicted to be the most common cancer among South African men by 2030. Research also indicates that Black African men have a 60% higher chance of developing prostate cancer compared to other population groups.
On the other hand, testicular cancer affects one in 250 males and is most prevalent in young men aged 15 to 35.
By participating in the event, men will lend their support to others who are at risk of, or diagnosed with prostate and testicular cancer.
