GIVEAWAY & A Treat for Rosebank: Wedgewood Nougat Launches New Emporium

Wedgewood Nougat, South Africa’s beloved artisanal confectioner, has officially unwrapped its brand-new Gifting & Hamper Emporium at The Zone in Rosebank. This thoughtfully curated space blends Wedgewood’s signature handcrafted nougat with a selection of luxurious hampers, bespoke gift boxes, and locally inspired treats. Thus, they are offering a one-stop destination for memorable, meaningful gifting. Whether you’re marking a special occasion or simply indulging in something sweet, the new emporium invites visitors to experience the art of giving in true Wedgewood style.
A Family Serving Families
In 1999, Gilly Walters started making her unique, soft handmade honey nougat for guests at music concerts held at her home. After receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback, Gilly began selling her nougat at the local farmers’ market. From there, the business flourished with the launch of her pioneering nougat biscuit, and Wedgewood Crafted Confectionery was born. Wedgewood’s home is The Wedgewood Farm, a decommissioned dairy farm near the majestic Drakensberg Mountains.
In 2025, her family and shareholders continue her legacy alongside a Wedgewood Team of 150 committed and passionate staff. They use the same ingredients, recipes, and trade secrets passed down by Gilly. Still operating from their farm-turned-makery in the Midlands, Wedgewood remains a family business dedicated to sharing their passion with other families.
Paul Walters, CEO of Wedgewood Crafted Confectionery, said: “This year, Wedgewood celebrates its 25th anniversary as a family business. Our nougat is still handmade on our farm and we work with the same passion and commitment that we always have, whilst creating exciting new recipes and all the while keeping a very particular eye on quality, just the way our Mum did.”
When speaking of the Wedgewood Team, Walters continues: “Although we come from diverse backgrounds, our goal is to make a difference—whether it’s developing recipes, giving back to our community, or finding ways to be more environmentally friendly and sustainable. The Wedgewood Family is also our community of customers who have helped us build and grow over the years.”
Rosebank Gains a New Gem
Wedgewood chose Rosebank’s The Zone as home for their latest Gifting & Hamper Emporium. The floral wallpaper in these experiential stores is inspired by the rose farm where Gilly had a Tea Garden. It was here that the family also grew roses on part of the original farm in the Midlands. The artwork has previously been painted by Gilly’s daughter-in-law, Zoe Walters and now her son, Gilly’s grandson, has created the newest floral painting for Rosebank. This features on the floor-to-ceiling wallpaper and the wrapping paper of featured hampers. It truly is a family business.
The Wedgewood Gifting & Hamper Emporiums also highlights The Handmade Box Project. Launched on the Wedgewood Farm in 2021, this initiative employs people who have overcome physical and cognitive challenges to provide an income for their families. This project was initiated to solve the need for beautiful handmade boxes to house their nougat. It was also to answer the call for employment for previously disadvantaged members of the local community who were willing and wanting to work. These boxes are now the foundation of their gifting range. Wedgewood currently employs two full-time Handmade Box Project team members, Sli and Sphume, who can produce up to 100 boxes a day. Spectacularly, each box contains a message from them inside.
Giving Back to Nature: 1% for the Planet
Wedgewood’s commitment to ‘giving back’ is reflected in their plastic-neutral status and their Planet Bee Pledge. Wedgewood is committed to donating 1% of turnover from their Emporiums and online sales to conservation and community projects.
This money goes directly to three projects that they work with to make a difference. The first is the Litterboom Project, launched in 2017 by two surfers who designed and deploys booms across riverine systems to prevent the flow of plastic entering the oceans.
The conservation projects that Wedgewood has supported include the KZN Conservation Trust in their work to protect rhinos in KZN. They also support the Wildlife Act, which in turn supports NGOs that monitor endangered species, promote conservation, and educate communities on the importance of biodiversity. For example, Wedgewood’s donation to this Act funded the building of an Owl Sanctuary at Tala Game Reserve in KZN.
Wedgewood also supports Singakwenza, an NPO that trains practitioners, parents, and caregivers to facilitate early learning educational programmes. These build foundational learning skills amongst children with the hopes to break the poverty cycle.
Wedgewood is also committed to sustainable sourcing for its key ingredients. They support ethical beekeeping practices with local farmers in KwaZulu-Natal’s Rift Valley to ensure the health of bee populations. Additionally, two years ago, they constructed a bespoke macadamia nut cracking facility on The Wedgewood Farm.
