Home Activities that Won’t Break the Bank

Whether it’s a rainy weather kind of day or a late Sunday afternoon, sometimes you just want to be at home. And that is perfectly okay. In fact, it is sometimes the most effective way to save money. That doesn’t mean you have to become a couch potato, though. We have a list of home activities that won’t break the bank!
1. Piece Together a Puzzle
One of our favourite things to do on a lazy day is to set out a puzzle. This home activity is perfect if you fancy spending some time alone or doing it as a family activity. There are so many styles to choose from that nearly everyone will find a puzzle they want to do. For example, there is the World of Shakespeare puzzle from Exclusive Books, a Johannesburg Skyline from Amazon, or Savanna Animals from Readers Warehouse. You can also decide if you want to start with a 500-piece puzzle and build up to 1000 pieces. Or, if you are a seasoned puzzler, go for the big boys that start at 1500 or 2000 pieces. As a family, you could even attempt more!

2. Break Out The Boardgames
You knew this one was coming. Do you remember all those classic boardgames you stuffed in the bottom of your kitchen cupboard? They are probably collecting dust now, but its time to wipe them clean and break them out. Chess, Monopoly, Cluedo, UNO, Trivial Pursuit and Twister are just a few examples. It is a great way to get friends or family together and create wholesome memories. Additionally, if you are home alone, bring out the deck of cards for a game of Solitaire.

3. Try a YouTube Home Workout
Get up and move your body whilst following along to a YouTube workout. The options of workout-themed home activities are endless on the app: From HIIT, abs and glutes and wall Pilates to yoga, legs or cardio. If you do not have an exercise mat, just grab a pool towel and you’re good to go. Of course, you could also see if you have any wrist and ankle weights lying around. P.S. Don’t forget to drink lots of water and push the furniture out the way to avoid injury!

4. Make Your Own Cocktails
This one is an immediate yes from us. Have a look in your liquor cabinet or home-bar and line up all your options. From there, ask Google or even our new trusty friend, ChatGPT, which cocktail you can make with what you have on hand. Or, you can take matters into your own hands and create a totally new cocktail! Get creative with garnish, flavour profiles, presentation and names. Invite your friends to participate too! You can all make a new cocktail and present it to the group in a fun and friendly competition.

5. Read a Book and Vibe Out to Your Favourite Tunes
Once you’ve made your signature cocktail, get settled on the couch for a little bit of quiet time. Grab that book that has been lying around for weeks (or even months) and give it a go. Connect your phone to a Bluetooth speaker or navigate your television to a music channel and lay back as you listen to your favourite tunes. If you need to invest in a good book, we recommend the romantic Happy Place by Emily Henry. For a more suspenseful book, try The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. Or, go back to the classics with The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Home is where the heart is, so why not stay in one night and have some wholesome me-time? You will be singing home sweet home in no time with these home activities.
