JAECOO J6: A New Fully Electric SUV Arrives in South Africa
JAECOO has announced the arrival of its new, fully electric J6 in South Africa come 2025. The J6 debuted at the Festival of Motoring that ran from 30 August to 1 September and stole the show. To much anticipation, local car lovers got to experience this bold, battery-electric compact SUV in person.
As part of O&J, a division of the fast-growing Chery Group, JAECOO is ready to strengthen its place in the global new-energy vehicle market with the J6.
Striking Design, Inside and Out
On the outside, the J6 features a retro-inspired design with bold, boxy proportions, with its unique look standing out on the road. And, inside it continues to surprise. The five-seater offers a spacious cabin with clever storage solutions that enhance its versatility. In fact, whether you’re driving through city streets or exploring off-road terrain, the JAECOO J6 offers the perfect balance of comfort and capability. Built for various driving conditions, it handles all scenarios effortlessly.
Leading the Urban Off-Road SUV Market
The J6 cements JAECOO’s leadership in the urban off-road SUV space. It’s tougher than your average crossover, while simultaneously offering more comfort than a traditional off-roader. Building on the success of the JAECOO J7, which sparked the ‘urban off-roading’ trend, the J6 combines city style with off-road performance to take the concept even further.
Building on Success in South Africa
JAECOO has exciting plans for the future. Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager for OMODA & JAECOO, revealed that the brand is preparing to launch a plug-in hybrid electric version of the J7. “Although we’re preparing to launch a plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) version of the J7 – which will push the brand into the local new-energy vehicle space – the upcoming J6 represents the next step for our growing line-up as it’s set to arrive as the first fully electric model to wear the JAECOO badge.”
JAECOO first entered the South African market in April 2024 with the J7, which received a very positive response. By July, the J7 had pushed JAECOO to 26th place out of 54 automotive brands reporting sales to naamsa, South Africa’s industry body. Together with the launch of the J6 and other new models, the brand is primed for further growth and success.
The full South African market launch is set for 2025, signaling a new era in South Africa’s electric vehicle market.
