Lexus unveils the all new RX Hybrid EV
The new Lexus RX Hybrid Electric Vehicle is now in its fifth generation. It is a pioneer in the luxury crossover market and has undergone a complete renewal.
Initially, the car makers’ first challenge was to create a car that was fun to drive. One that could have dialogue with the driver. Now, the ‘Lexus Driving Signature’ evolves even further by thoroughly improved vehicle fundamentals. While maintaining the refined ride, this is also achieved through a high level of quietness. These are ultimately the origins of the Lexus brand.
Furthermore, Lexus had to transform the design. Eventually they created a unique identity through the use of the ‘spindle body.’ This provides ample cooling functionality with a powerful design style that conveys the new driving experience. Simultaneously, the interior design is based on the human-centred Tazuna. The concept aims to create a driver’s seat that allows a deeper and more intuitive connection between car and driver. There’s also a strong focus on ample comfortable passenger space.
Two Lexus models available in SA
The new RX offers a diverse line-up of powertrains. Clearly, these are focused on meeting customers’ needs in various countries and regions globally. In South Africa, consumers can choose from the following:
- Lexus’ RX 350h (2.5-litre inline-four hybrid system). It delivers low fuel consumption and an exhilarating driving feel.
- Or, the RX 350 (2.4-litre turbocharged inline-four). It delivers a torque-filled dynamic driving performance.
- Alternatively they can opt for the 2.5-litre PHEV and 2.4-litre turbo models. These are available with all-wheel drive (AWD).
- And, of course the 2.5-litre HEV is available in either AWD or front-wheel drive (FWD) drivetrain configuration.
