Mercedes-Benz GLA200 for the win
If there was ever a vehicle that could be defined as a go-getter, it’s the Mercedes-Benz GLA200. This car is on the go as much as you and we love it!
In our Festive Season issue we talk about how cars form an integral part of your day-to-day lifestyle. Ultimately, your car becomes your companion and well, the GLA200 is the perfect companion for a versatile life. Apart from it having a very modern, yet elegant look and feel, it’s also compact and very functional.
Here are our favourite features of the Mercedes-Benz GLA200:
Less hatchback, more crossover
While the first generation GLA is said to have had a bit of a hatchback feel to it, the second generation proves to be much more. It can now stand proud as a genuine crossover, considering the styling, seating position, capacity and even the way it drives.
Looking good and feeling fine
If aesthetics were the main drawcard here, we wouldn’t mind pulling this one into our driveway. The GLA200 has got beautiful lines and a good looking exterior, while boasting a modern interior with comfortable seats. In fact, the seating position seems to be a bit higher (and more popular) than in the previous GLA, which is a great add-on to the current generation.
The GLA200's got oomph!
In comparison to the GLB250 – which we feature in Hello Lifestyle Magazine’s festive issue – the GLA200 has a little more horsepower. (Both test vehicles were automatic). While some drivers might feel that the GLA doesn’t have enough grunt, it does have enough torque from the turbo motor. Also, it has a 7-speed dual-clutch.
Eyes on everything
In addition to its rather plush interior, the dash allows you to keep tabs on everything with a freestanding Widescreen Cockpit. Also, the illuminated air vents ensure a sporty vibe when it comes to the interior. (Just keep in mind that while the vehicle’s cost starts at around R 776 769.00 with the basic specs, the price can climb quite rapidly once you start adding additional specs like the full MBUX functionality with large screens, a head-up display, extra comfort, convenience and safety options).
Sound on!
The GLA’s MBUX infotainment system is next-level and a leader in its class. We often pumped up the volume. While at it, we also quite enjoyed the vehicle’s LED ambient lighting, which could be changed according to your mood.
In addition to the high-quality sound system and the fact that it works with both Apple and Android and that it’s integrated with Bluetooth and has several USB ports, it’s actually the voice control system that impresses most people. This comes standard and all you have to say is: “Hey Mercedes,” before you ask the car anything. In fact, you can even ask the car to turn on the heated seats!
There’s a lot to say about the GLA and although many might argue that it doesn’t have much power as a crossover and that the boot space is a little small (which is true), we still enjoyed the drive.
