Our top five luxury destinations in the heart of Sandton

Leonardo Artwork Fabric of the Universe

We often get asked where we think the best leisure locations in Sandton are and this is not an easy question to answer. But, we’ve decided to accept the challenge of identifying the best of the best and where better to begin than with one of South Africa’s most iconic and long-standing hospitality companies, Legacy Hotels & Resorts?

With a variety of hotels, restaurants, spas and even the highest bar in Africa, Legacy Hotels has something for every taste and occasion. We recently explored some of Sandton’s most iconic destinations and put together a list of our top five experiences in the city:

Alto234

A vertigo trip with Moët in hand

Alto bar with Moet machine

Located at the very top of The Leonardo, 234 meters above the ground, this cocktail and Champagne bar offers an extraordinary experience. With 360-degree views reaching as far as the Voortrekker Monument in Pretoria, Alto234 is the place to visit if you’re looking to make an impression. With a selection of expertly designed cocktails, a delicious tapas menu and a Moët & Chandon vending machine (yes you read that correctly), you and your guests will be wowed to no end.

DaVinci Spa

Leave with the feeling of floating on a cloud of bliss

DaVinci Spa treatment

The DaVinci Spa is another gem in the Legacy portfolio of leading destinations and we can easily say one of our best spa experiences to date. Yes, that is a massive statement to make, however once you’ve had a chance to relish in the DaVinci Spa awakening, you will not disagree. With expertly trained therapists, and a relaxing, tranquil environment, your soul will be revitalized and elevated to a new level of consciousness. We highly suggest the 90minute QMS Spa Signature Massage, which is an intensively nourishing oil-based massage, paired with an invigorating, relaxing and moisturising essence for an ultimate luxurious treatment.

ROAR Bistro & Bar

All-day gastronomic retreat

ROAR Bistro & Bar, formerly known as Parc Ferme, is located on Maude Street, directly opposite the Sandton Convention Centre. The central location makes this restaurant an ideal meeting point for a quick business lunch, executive engagement or even a romantic evening out with your significant other. With a contemporary look and global menu, the eatery is the perfect destination to pause, relax and unwind while sipping on a delicious cocktail.

The Leonardo

Pure class and sophistication

The Leonardo is undoubtedly Legacy’s crowning and with good reason. This mixed-use complex offers residents, guests and tenants the ideal environment to mix, work and relax. Our visit to the all-suite hotel was for ultimate rest and reboot in a luxurious, five-star environment and boy, were we taken care of! It must be noted that the property’s management and service teams are some of the friendliest and most well-trained we’ve encountered. At The Leonardo, they truly go over and above to make sure that from the moment you walk through the front door, your every need is taken care of with the utmost class and sophistication that a discerning traveller has come to expect.

The Leonardo Art Experience

An awe-inspiring journey of discovery

Leonardo_Artwork_Roots

South African art is making a massive impact on the international art scene and The Leonardo Art Experience is helping drive this wave, thanks to their curated collection of pieces that have been designed specifically for the spaces they adorn. Developers of the building have given local artists a blank canvas and allowed their creativity to run wild. Some of these installations had to be created while the building was being constructed due to their size, which must have been a challenging endeavor for both artists and the construction team. There is an excess of over 800 pieces of artwork throughout the building in both public spaces and in the tastefully decorated suites. Most of these works were created with recycled or sustainable materials. Our favourite pieces are The Ancestor and accompanying Impact installation at the entrance of the building. The Ancestor is made from over 80,000 brass and stainless steel squares – a truly awe-inspiring masterpiece.
