We’ve eaten our way through the hood and come up with our favorite four restaurants to dine at right now. Dinner, lunch or brunch, there is somewhere for every gastronome.
Abi'z Coffee - Fourways
Why is Abi'z one of our top restaurants in Fourways?
Named after the proprietors daughter this secret little space is unfortunately hidden, inside the Fourways Longpoint Building. However once you find it you’re guaranteed to return. From wood-fired pizza, pasta and veggy burgers, they serve it. They also make all their own bread and bake all their own sweeties. We love the outdoor deck area, comfy and cosy offering up a great view of the city.
What to order?
Every slice of cake on the menu. No really, they bake their own chocolate brownies, cheesecake, serve the best carrot cake and make delicious croissants too. Basically sample as much as possible and make sure you arrive with a sweet tooth.
Oh and P.S they even gave away free dusted doughnuts one Friday so keep an eye on their social pages.
The Prawnery - Illovo
Why is The Prawnery one of our top restaurants in Illovo?
This bistro and bar is so underrated. We couldn’t believe this was our first time visiting this super cool spot. Ideal for afterwork drinks at the bar or a romantic dinner for two or even suitable for a quick business luncheon. Situated in Illovo, this hotspot serves up wholesome, delicious, beautifully prepared food. Don’t forget to look out for their wine tasting evenings!
What to order?
The question is what not to order? There is so much to choose from so don’t mistake this restaurant for their seafood only. We loved the dim sum, the Vietnamese spring roll, the edamame beans and the crisp calamari with a homemade harissa mayo dip. Then order prawns, fried, grilled or battered, name it they offer it from king prawns to prawn nacional to prawn pasta, it is all utterly sublime. This has got to be one of our fav restaurants in Joburg that offers only the freshest prawns and seafood.
Why is Olives & Plates one of our top restaurants in Hyde Park?
Located inside Hyde Park Shopping Centre this food chain deserves a trophy. They are always consistent and serve up delectable dishes plus you’ll dine in the most divine setting overlooking the city. The space is marvelous and on your way out you can even grab a novel with a takeaway slice of Lindt Chocolate cake.
What to order?
Go for breakfast and try their organic Acai bowl and then go back for dinner and try their falafel salad with a creamy lemon tahini dressing. Oh and you also have to try their parmesan panko chicken crusted fillet. The quality is exquisite, the service is exceptional and the ingredients are always the freshest. Basically we haven’t tried anything on the menu we didn’t love.
Why is Wickley's one of our top restaurants in Joburg?
Booming inside Fourways Mall is this fantastic steakhouse. The view is the main focus of this space and the space is continuous and expansive with outdoor and indoor dining areas. The sunset views cannot be beaten. Serving up fiery flavors and stellar service this restaurant needs to be on your must visit list, especially during the winter season.
What to order?
When was the last time you had an ostrich steak? Cooked to perfection, balanced well with sauce and spice, they create one of the tastiest ostrich fillets. Plus their sides are so exciting, yes they have the boring creamed spinach. But they also have sweet pumpkin, avocado relish, sauteed crumbed mushrooms, Oumas green beans, onion rings and even a cheesy garlic roll. Plus you don’t pay extra for your side! So when you order their 480gm T-bone for R245 it includes a side and a sauce. We also love that they offer a kiddies menu and have a beautiful bar for the finest refreshing G&T.
