kids looking for easter eggs

“Holiday hip hip hooray”, said no parent ever. It’s not easy managing the entire brood for more than two days in a row.

Don’t fret we are here to help you with our 5 top things to do with the kids this Easter weekend… And it won’t cost you a fortune.

1. Frolic in nature at The Hugh Wyndham Park

#HelloRecommends visiting around 3 pm when it’s slightly cooler, and killing two dogs with one stone, bringing the hounds along too. There is an enclosed jungle gym area, which is incredibly safe and spacious and the pooches can prance along the edge.

You don’t need to pay for a mom’s and babes class, just visit the park, meet up with a fellow mom, lay a blanket and bring along a takeaway cuppa tea.

Check out our list of top takeaway spots during lockdown.

2. Go chow out of town at The Grumpy Cow

#HelloRecommends Going on a Saturday or Sunday because they’re closed for the rest of the week. The Grumpy Cow is a humble eatery and did we mention it’s also a craft beer garden and that they offer live music? Nestled in a tented area located on Bosheuwel Country Estate, The Grumpy Cow brings together good food, good beer and good moosic.

It’s located on a beautiful farm with ungrumpy cows, fluffy ducklings and chickens roaming free, so yes it is completely child friendly. Bring your litter, order your booze and get mooving.

3. Take in the views at The Wilds Nature Reserve

#HelloRecommends visiting The Giraffe Lawn early morning because the weather is best, not too early as its safer when busier, between 8 and 10 am.

This environment is exquisite, amongst the Houghton city buzz is where you’ll find 16 hectares of indigenous vegetation on the sides of two rocky hills. The views of the city are mesmerising and yes it is dog friendly and yes all yogis are welcome and yes the lilies are in flower.

This landmark has become so popular, they’ve also just restored the waterfalls and there are various ponds and water spots you can even swim in with the frogs.

#HelloRecommends supporting local and visiting theatre because it is the perfect family outing!  Bringing stories to life on the stage of their outdoor Imagination Theatre.

Sit under the trees, bring your sun hats, picnic blankets and snacks, and enjoy the charming and entertaining Peter And The Wolf production (This fairytale show is running until 18 April.)

They also have a tuck shop cart so you can purchase some noms at the venue. The theatre is open Monday to Saturday, 8:30 am- 4:30 pm and tickets start from R120pp.

5. Craft fun day at Glitter Factory's Craftageous

#HelloRecommends This is a little paradise for creativity and because we believe in always leaving a little sparkle, this freestyle artistic environment is perfect for the future Picasso. This is the ideal space to take a bunch of kiddies because they’ll be entertained for hours.

We love that they offer a Pop in and Craft environment, this means no classes or schedules, so whether it is wood Art, ceramics, canvas painting, fabric painting, DIY fairy gardens, or beadwork, they offer it!

P.S. If you would rather stay in, you can simply order one of their creative Bunny Craftikits for home.
