Stop what you are doughing and try our top three bagel spots

Even After All Restaurant

Whatever you are doughing right now, stop. This is serious.

At the HJ offices we take our bread very seriously and if like us your firm belief is bagels are the bread of life, listen up.

Here are our top three bagel spots in Joburg for 2021:

1. Jacks Bagels Greenside

for the breakfast bagel

What we love: this proudly South African bagel bar. They are brand spanking new to Greenside and we couldn’t wait to get our hands on them bagels.

Firstly we absolutely love that they serve authentic style NY bagels, chewy, crusty and so crisp. Secondly their bagels are all artisan made from stone ground flour with no preservatives, no dairy, no sugar and GMO free. Now while they do serve a proudly South African bagel, (biltong, cream cheese and red onion) which we appreciate you have to have their rocket breakfast bagel filled with an egg, bacon, cream cheese, tomato and rocket. It just hits the spot. Oh and grab a cup of their delicious Miko coffee, one of the oldest coffee roasters in the world.

And no we wont judge you if you order another one to go.

#HR soon you will be able to order on their app and drive by to collect.

14 Gleneagles Rd Greenside

2. The Gourmet Grocer Birdhaven

to meet head baker Dumie and take home their bagels

What we love: Dumie. Once you meet him you will understand why we have fallen in love with this brilliant baker. Not only does he bake the best buns in this Birdhaven corner eatery but he has the smile to match. You see what sets the Gourmet Grocer apart is their staff, who have a passion and a devotion for their craft. Dumie bakes all their artisanal breads, which are made fresh daily and on site to ensure freshness and safety. He is gluten obsessed and has truly refined his bagel baking skills.

You can expect a real New York style boiled bagel that you can take home with you, order two dozen and freeze them. Oh you can also take home a few goodies from their Jewish deli Sadie’s to put on your bagel or buy some yummy vegan cheese and fresh artichokes.

We assure you it is oh so instagrammable.

3. Even After All Restaurant

for their vegilicious bagel

What we love: Just you wheat and see. This HJ is where you go for the ideal brunch date. This new hideaway is oh so uber cool and a great inclusion into the already amazing hub that is 44 Stanley. Their traditional style smoked salmon cream cheese and capers bagel is tdf and you can even eat it in a comfy booth. Oh and they have actual working wi-fi so workaholics you can slog post/pre brunch.
