Our top 4 pre-spring pampering tips
Before we know it, winter is gone, and our dry skins need some pampering. Ideally, we should start stocking up on the right products now, pre-spring. That will ensure that we kick off the new season with bright and fresh faces to flaunt come spring.
Apart from a moisturiser-free beauty routine, there are some must-haves when it comes to looking after your skin. In conjunction with antioxidant-rich serums, you also need to invest in a quality SPF.
Some SPF secrets
According to Dr. Juandri Jonck from LifeLAB in Pretoria, all SPFs aren’t created equal. Most SPFs will include protection for UVA (for ageing) and UVB (for sunburn). In addition, some SPFs also protect against IRA (infrared) and HEV light – the leading causes of premature ageing due to free radical damage.
Dr. Jonck suggests you opt for Heliocare, Dermexcel, Lamelle or Sunskin’s SPFs. There are a couple of sunblocks that include antioxidants, so keep an eye out for those that specify antioxidants under their ingredients. With that, Vitamin C helps for sun damage, creating a physical barrier.
Tinted SPFs like those from Sunskin or Dermexcel are even better. In addition to the usual SPF ingredients, it also contains iron which increases the reflection of light. Therefore, those who can’t afford a Heliocare SPF 50 can opt for a Sunskin SPF, which is almost half the price while still boasting HEV and IRA protection too.
Skin Gym
One of the best treatments you can spoil yourself with before spring arrives, is a skin gym. If you’re looking for a quick way to kick off the regeneration of new skin, this is one of your best bets. The treatment contains a schedule 3 retinol, which enhances the process of skin regeneration. In addition, it also contains hydroquinone, which helps to reduce hyperpigmentation.
Chemical peel
Another great way to prep your skin for spring is to go for a proper chemical peel. This will also speed up the process of teaching your skin to regenerate itself.
Micro-needling
While this is another superficial option, Dr. Jonck warns that you need to have 6-week intervals between treatments. Also be careful not to go too deep, as it might cause scar tissue. It’s ideal for the collagen stimulation of the fibroblasts, resulting in plump, fresh looking skin for spring.
