Pretoria Guide: Shop ’til You Drop
We all have a little bit of ‘shopaholic’ in us. Whether that be for food, clothes, crafts, furniture or other odds and bobs. Hence, here are our three latest favourite shops from around Pretoria to keep your shopping urges satisfied.
Mo’s Crib
While their handmade baskets and other proudly South African home accents are available at shops like @home, Woolworths, Mr Price Home, Crate & Barrel and Target, Mo’s Crib is actually located just outside of Pretoria. And, what you might not have known, is that the brand’s co-founder, Morongwe (Mo) Mokone was presented with the prestigious Veuve Clicquot Bold Woman Award 2024 last year. Essentially, it is an award that recognises her relentless determination and boldness in the face of adversity.
She co-founded Mo’s Crib with her sister, Michelle and says: “This recognition by Veuve Clicquot is not just a personal achievement, but a testament to the resilience and determination required to navigate and succeed in the entrepreneurial world. Cheers to creating sustainable products and jobs in South Africa!”
Therefore, if you fancy some local crafts to spruce up your home, visit the outskirts of Pretoria to find Mo’s Crib.
Moreleta Corner
Previously known as Moreleta Plaza, the recently launched Moreleta Corner on the corner of Garsfontein Road and Rubenstein Drive is a re-imagined centre, now with a strong mix of tenants. While the location has always served as an integral part of the Pretoria community, it’s now been elevated with a variety of shops. These include Checkers Fresh X, a Medi-rite pharmacy, Volpes, Spur, The Crazy Store, SkinPhD, Incredible Clothing, NeoVision and more. So, be sure to swing by if you are in the Pretoria area.
Eskort
The Eskort brand recently celebrated 107 years and with that, the antibiotic-free pork producer turned it into one big, extended party, with various stunts. From 107 cakes made entirely from sausages and bacon and a 107-second bacon ASMR video, to 107 gift drops across the country and more, it was sure a birthday celebration of note.
Eskort started in 1917 in the small KwaZulu-Natal town, Estcourt. Today, they employ 2200 people and they have shops all over South Africa, including Pretoria’s own at the recently launched Castle Gate Lifestyle Centre. With such a rich history, pork chops, ribs, eisbein and gammon, Eskort is way more than just bacon.
What is breakfast without their streaky bacon, right?
There is always something to shop for and if you shop wisely, there is no need to feel ashamed for your card-tapping tendencies. Embrace it!
