Setting the GPS coordinates to an ideal location, packing your favourite snacks from Woolies and enabling your email autoresponder are crucial elements for any road trip. However, driving the best road trip car is the only guarantee for a truly memorable journey. We’ve searched far and wide to bring you our definitive list of the ideal cars to explore this wonderful country with.

Hitting the open road

It’s a little cliché, but we often subscribe to the motto: “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” While most South Africans are experienced road trippers, you never know what trouble you might encounter on the open road. Especially if you’re bundu bashing. Why not take some time to set out your journey, research stops along the way and pack all the necessary accessories and emergency gear? We recommend surfing the AA website for a travel checklist and considering downloading the AA Rescue Me App for added assurance. Then, fill up the tank (or plugin for a full charge), pack your bags, and hit the road.

The new Suzuki Ertiga

The car that's all in for a lot less

Most Suzuki owners value the same features: Safety, comfort and entertainment. The new Suzuki Ertiga offers all that in abundance at an affordable price. With the choice of a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission, you have the freedom to select driver’s comfort over cost. The long wheelbase of 2740mm and the seven-seat configuration create an extremely spacious interior. Suzuki’s Total Effective Control Technology (TECT) underpins an extremely rigid, but lightweight body structure, making for a smooth passenger experience.

Inside the Ertiga GL, the specification level climbs significantly. Gone is the standard radio. Instead, you’ll find a new full-colour 7” touch screen infotainment system with integration for Apple and Android phones. This new infotainment system has also allowed Suzuki to add a reverse camera and a multi-functional steering wheel with Bluetooth controls for hands-free dialing. They’ve even added cruise control to this specification level, with control buttons easily accessible on the steering wheel.

Safety, comfort and entertainment in the new Suzuki Ertiga

Whether you’re driving the kids to school in rush-hour traffic, taking the family on a weekend excursion to the zoo, or courtesy transporting guests between hotels and airports, with the new Ertiga, you can really get “All in.”

Kia Sonet Turbo

The SUV life

Kia Sonet Turbo

The new Kia Sonet 1.0 T-GDi is equipped with Kia’s advanced 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, mated with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (7DCT). A new engine in the local Kia stable, the 1.0 T-GDi boasts outputs of 88kW at 6,000 r/min and a stout 172 Nm of torque on a plateau from 1,500-4,000 r/min. For the layman, this technical jargon can appear a little confusing, but trust us when we say that these new specs make for the most comfortable, silent and supercharged driving experience within this vehicle range.

Kia has done an incredible job with this car by balancing affordability with an array of features and benefits that present an exceptional value for adventurous families.

Your journey begins.

Be inspired by the all-new Kia Sonet compact SUV. Start with its refined and dynamic appearance. Add a stylish, connected and spacious cabin. Enjoy simple controls and forward-thinking technology. The compact and classy Kia Sonet means journeys full of possibility and discovery.
