Stay in a magical mountain village in the Eastern Cape

Do Gqeberha like a local and consider this your bucketlist item for 2021. We’re rather reluctant to admit it but this was our very first time in PE, Eastern Cape, however it won’t be our last, with its world-class beaches and majestic mountaintops it’s easy to understand why people love it. This province is oozing with friendliness, warmth and bottomless hospitality.

Whether you’re up for a short visit or a lingering trip, we’ve got you covered with this adventurous travel holiday.

Good to know: This location is covid compliant and there is loads of open space and little crowds. It is a small hotel so no masses of people.

Get lost in the mountains at Zuurberg Mountain Village, a member of Cape Country Routes

Taking into account all the natural beauty in the Eastern Cape, you will struggle to find a more magnificent location. Wanderlust and explore in the rolling mountain hills dotted with evergreen flora and fauna. This is the ultimate getaway.

Getting there: You can fly into Gqeberha airport and just over one hours drive is where you’ll find these emerald green, isolated slopes.

Why go: You know when you visit a place with rich history and deep roots (160 years old) and you instantly fall head over heels in love? Welcome to Zuurberg, owner run and managed this quaint countryside hotel ticks all the right boxes. It is other-worldly and deserves to be kept top secret because it is an exceptional hidden gem. One you almost don’t want to share nor want to become saturated with tedious regularity. Visiting this space is like stepping back in time, losing yourself, shedding skin. It is every travelers dream come true.

#HelloRecommends: The eye-catching paths, luring you even deeper into nature and the multiple hikes just as you step outside your village door.

There is a pool with a view and a fantastic restaurant and bar and a lounge to unwind in with a roaring fire and Toby the Labrador to keep you company.

The staff are outstanding, expect stellar service, which might be surprising in such a remote space but it cannot be ignored. The staff are dedicated and consistent, incredibly friendly and accommodating, they become the third wheel you never knew you wanted on your travels.

A safari morning drive and picnic brunch. Set within a short twenty kilometer drive from the village, in Addo Elephant National Park.

Don’t forget: to visit their small but sophisticated spa at the Zuurberg Garden Spa and Wellness Center. The prices are ludicrously inexpensive and the treatments are world-class. Who can imagine anything better than a positively hedonistic rub-down post hike?
