Sustainable beauty products you can trust

Did you know the beauty industry is one of the industries that produce the most (of non-recyclable) plastic waste? In addition, one garbage truck of single use plastic gets dumped into our oceans every minute. Consequently, it’s becoming more important to opt for sustainable beauty brands.

While there are many reliable brands out there, there are some who just want to make more bucks. Many of them use terms like ‘green’ just to impress the buyer. Meanwhile, they don’t really come to the party when it comes to truly being eco-friendly.

Here are some of our favourite sustainable beauty products:

Beaut Serums' products

Made in Africa, Beaut Serums‘ products are purposely crafted for our African skins. Furthermore, they are very selective with what they put into their products. All ingredients are ethical, cruelty-free, vegan and kind to the environment. Their website lists all the ingredients that they include in their products. From marula oil and aloe, to gotu kola and liquorice root extract.

These sustainable beauty products are all about having a big impact on skin, but a small effect on the environment. Therefore, they pledge to make safe beauty products with full transparency. That goes for ingredients, packaging and processes.

My Beauty Luv

If we can use sustainable beauty products on the outside, why compromise the inside? My Beauty Luv’s supplements come in beautiful, recyclable glass containers and refill boxes. They offer products for firmness and elasticity, glow and even skin tone, hair and nail fortification and more. These products are third-party verified, Kosher certified, Halaal certified, vegan friendly and EcoCert certified organic. They’re also 100% pure.

Lulu & Marula's products

Lulu & Marula‘s sustainable beauty products are all handmade in South Africa. It’s made in small batches and the brand believes in natural, ethnically produced skincare that works.

They use only plant-based ingredients, and no tests are done on animals. They use minimal glass and cardboard packaging that can be recycled and reused.

Africology's sustainable beauty products

Africology Jasmine Balm

Africology is another local brand which opts to still make the majority of their products in small batches and by hand. That ensures that they can sustain job creation and keep a hand on quality. This beauty brand’s products are all ethical and cruelty-free. They also use natural and organic ingredients, and their formulations never contain harsh chemicals.

On their website they also indicate which ingredients they prefer to stay away from. This offers customers a transparent view of the brand’s green goals.

We bet there are more sustainable beauty brands out there. The ideal is to do proper research before going shopping. Together we can make a positive impact on our environment.
